Black Velvet

Athens (Attica)
Heavy Metal, Hard Rock
Active:
1992-1997

BLACK VELVET was an Athens-based group active between 1992-1997. One rather unique feature for the times is that all songs on their only known three-track demo tape – issued in 1995 – are performed in the Greek language. EXORISTOI had of course done this already back in the 1980s, but by the mid-1990s it not often heard in Heavy Metal (way more common among Greek Hardcore Punk bands though). Musically, they operate within the Heavy Metal spectrum, but with a certain 1990s Hard Rock vibe at times – hard to explain in words, you just have to hear it. Members of the group included: Dimitris Nikolopoulos (vocals, guitars), Panagiotis Resvanis (guitars), Kyriakos Papadodimas (bass, backing vocals) and Kostas Kalogiros (drums, backing vocals). NOTE: according to the demo liner notes, drums for that session were performed by a certain Andreas “Hammer”.
