Behemoth

Athens (Attica)
Black Metal, Death Metal, Doom Metal
Active:
1992-1993, 1993-1997 (as INVOCATION)

BEHEMOTH was the direct precursor to the more well-known Athenian Death/Black/Doom Metal band INVOCATION. This early incarnation only lasted for about a year (1992-1993) before the name-change, and with consideration to the contemporaneous rise to fame of a certain Polish act, it was probably a wise decision.

A two-track promo bearing the unimaginative title “Promo-Tape-‘93” – originally spread only to labels, magazines, zines, etc. – is all that BEHEMOTH left behind. For fans of early atmospheric and doomy Death/Black metal, it’s definitely a tape worth looking up as it presents an alternative, rawer and more Death Metal-oriented take on material that would later end up in INVOCATION’s discography.
