Named after the Roman equivalent of Dionysos, Βάκχειος (“Bacchius”) belonged to the second wave of Greek Black Metal bands who tapped into the creative maelstrom set into motion by groups like ROTTING CHRIST, VARATHRON and NECROMANTIA and channeled it into different areas of expression. In the case of BACCHIUS, this cultivation of the Hellenic Black Metal sound remains traditional in execution, but fueled by an equally majestic and insurgent pagan spirit similar to the more well-known KAWIR.
The band was in reality a one-man operation, founded by Voreas – a rather prolific musician who figured in several underground acts (DARK MIGHTY THOUGHT, DRUTENTUS, F.R.O.S.T. and GOATTHRONE) and also ran the label Druvid Promotion.
