Arpyian Horde

Supposedly starting out in the early-00s, ARPYIAN HORDE was something of a Hellenic supergroup, including Kostas Tzortzis (guitars – BATTELROAR), Michael Perantinos (guitars – AIRGED L’AMH), Takis Fytos (bass – DREAM WEAVER, SOVEREIGN) along with John Vogiatzis (vocals – WHEELRUNNER, NEED) and John Alexandrakis (drums – WRATHBLADE). Unlike most groups of this ilk, ARPYIAN HORDE actually managed to deliver the goods and do it in such a convincing manner that we all wished they’d offer us more than their sole 7” single “From Olympus…/Wind from the Cave” (2004)!

Musically, we’re speaking of staunchly Epic Heavy/Power metal, inspired by the titans of the past (MANOWAR, MAIDEN, OMEN, WARLORD…) while still upholding a high degree of individual character. The trinity of well-written compositions, spirited performance and a suitable (not too polished) production all work together to create powerful and uplifting music that succeeds in transfering the listener to the center of the battlefield, swinging his weapon of choice. While released in a limited edition of 500 copies, “From Olympus…” is still surprisingly easy to come by at a modest price and comes in a very nice design courtesy of Cult Metal Classics.

As far as we know, ARPYIAN HORDE never folded officially and the band has done at least one gig at the reputable “Up the Hammers” festival in 2014 and also went through some changes in the line-up. Only the future will tell if the guys decide to give it another shot at releasing new material...
