ARMED DEATH was founded in Xanthi in the summer of 1992 as the direct successor of core members Antonis Rousoudis (vocals/bass) and Zisis (guitars) previous band ARMY OF DEATH. Joined by the new drummer Chris, the new trio released their first demo six months later in January 1993, entitled “Vaundoun”. Stylistically, ARMY OF DEATH can be described as a windblown admixture of Death- and Thrash Metal, immersed in the keyboard-enhanced atmospherics of contemporary Black Metal, bearing similarities to the music of their countrymen in ETHEREAL/DESOLATION and “Passage to Arcturo”-era ROTTING CHRIST. A gratiously raw and far from accessible release primarily recommended for underground maniacs.
After about twelve years of silence following the release of “Vaundoun”, the band regrouped and reformed with a new drummer, Themis. Suddenly, the underground was flooded with ARMED DEATH releases, including demo tapes, splits and compilations. Especially the myriad of compiled material makes for a veritable collector’s nightmare, featuring seemingly haphazardly compiled new, old and rerecorded material as well as the occasional live uptake and cover tune.
