The Thessalian capital of Larissa (birthplace of Achilles!) hosted a substantial amount of Metal bands in the 1990s. In addition to the city’s strong Heavy/Progressive Metal scene (BLACK FATE, DENIAL PRICE, DORIAN GRAY, etc.), Larissa also spawned several Black Metal bands. One of them was ANGELS OF CORRUPTION, a three-piece outfit consisting of Kostas M (vocals, guitars), Kostas N (bass, keyboards, backing vocals) and Jim P (drums). Their solitary release, 1998’s “Guardian of Evil” offers rudimentary yet varied Hellenic Black Metal with elements of Death- and Heavy metal. Interestingly, the demo gets more and more ambitous as it progresses – moving from the rather simple-structured “The Gates of the Unknown” to the multi-sectional ending couplet “The Rise and Fall of a Darklord”/”Guardian of Evil”.
