ALMOST HEAVEN was a little-known Doom Metal duo from Thessaloniki, formed in 2000 by Kostas (vocals, guitars, drums, keyboards) and Elias Fillaridis (bass, acoustic guitars, backing vocals – FUN WITH NUNS, NATIONAL PORNOGRAFIK, SICKS DAZE, etc.) Roughly similar to the early work of their townmates in AGNES VEIN, ALMOST HEAVEN draw influence from the classic Epic Doom bands of the 1980s/90s (CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETERNUS, SORCERER), complimented with a few modern touches (occasionally hoarse vocals, riffing techniques, etc.) As far as we know, they only released one self-titled demo CDr (2001), featuring three compositions with the centerpiece being the 10 min+ opening track “Praise the Desperate Mourn of the Deceived”. Really good stuff.
