AGNES VEIN was founded Thessaloniki 2001 playing classic Epic Doom Metal. While the production and some of the techniques employed on their debut demo/EP “…of Chaos and Law” (2004) betray certain modernities, the compositions and general spirit of the work is straight out of the golden age of the 1980s à la CANDLEMASS. Back then, the band consisted of members Sakis Kioses (vocals, guitars – LAUREL PATH), Erikos Negros (bass) and Kostas Tonios (drums). The next AGNES VEIN release in 2010, entitled “Duality” (a demo of roughly the same material was created a couple of years earlier), the band had begun adjusting their style towards a more distinctly modern blend between Black- and Doom Metal. This came to fruition on “Soulship” (2013), which also shows some Rock/Post-Rock influences in the guitar work. At that time, Foivos Chatzis (CIRCLE OF MUSHROOMS, HAIL SPIRIT NOIR, KATAVASIA, etc.) had replaced Kostas on the drums.
