Accidentals

Nicosia (Cyprus)
Heavy Metal
Active:
1991-unknown

Cyprus may not be a country known for hosting a substantial or particularly strong Heavy Metal scene, but it did spawn a handful of high-quality bands that to this day hold up very well to international standards. One of the finest and all-around unique acts to follow in the wake of the legendary ARMAGEDDON – who pretty much by their own paved way for the establishment of a domestic Cypriot Metal scene in the 1980s – was Nicosia’s ACCIDENTALS.

Having formed in 1991, ACCIDENTALS consisted of Marios Afxentiou (vocals), Nicos Loannou (guitars), Renos Christou (guitars), Alexis Meletou (bass) and Marios Nicolaou (drums) – none of which we know participated in any other Metal-related bands. Their sole official release was a self-titled 12” EP, issued the same year as the band’s foundation on the CBS-owned All Records. While perhaps primarily known for: a) featuring hilarious artwork and b) fetching ridiculous prices on the collector’s market, this two-track vinyl is in fact well worth tracking down if you have a penchant for X-factor music cast in off-kilter, US metal tradition à la BROCAS HELM, first ATTACKER LP, etc.
