Flynn Records releases...

Yeah, this is a controversial topic and I'm sure I'll regret going down this rabbit hole, but here goes...

Also I wasn't sure if I should post it here, in Metal Conquest of Victim Of Time, but since I at least want to start with discussing the actual music that they (re)release, Into Battle would fit the best. Might move the thread depending on how it developes..

Faves?

I have a weird one: DARK TYRANTS. Ever since I got this recording on CDR 15+ years ago I loved the raw, youthful energy of it but also realized that this is something that NO normal label would ever reissue, so color me shitshocked when it actually happened last year
I'm not saying it's technically the best music they've ever released, but I do appreciate the fact that they make very unlikely ship appear on vinyl that otherwise wouldn't.

I really love the 8-song NIGHTCHILD LP they did as well, though I'm a confused if it's an edited version of an even longer tape album? In any case a lost US Metal pearl.

The CAPTAIN KILL release is a complete gem of very early Italian Steel, perhaps not quite on par w/ Berserks but.. well.. almost.

And VERDICT, and MORBID SIN, and VENGEANCE, and RED FLOWER, and IRONAGE etc... not even mentioning the ones that were basically vinyl versions of already existing CD reissues like VALKYRIE, FATAL VIOLENCE, ENFORCER etc.. All in all I'd say just about every 2nd release is pretty great musicwise.

Now don't worry, we'll get to the discussion of their vampiric pricing policies and dubious bootlegs-or-not status in due time, but in the meantime, let me hear your thoughts on some of their releases.

I'm sure some of their releases are good, but I'm not supporting a label that charges that amount for their releases. Simple as that.

I have some of their releases and they do a really good job!
And some very nice ones as you said, Captain Kill, Sámán, Gypsy Rose, Black Ghost, Mantus just to name a few that I really enjoyed!
Talking about sound quality, it's really good and makes me think they have at least got it from someone related to the bands?

Remember the Glacier 88 Demo, they said it was authorized by 3 members of the band but anyway Michael Podrybau (that didn't recorded that demo) said it was not authorized...

And yes, prices are crazy! They could release a compilation of each band demos for that price instead of just a single one. Gypsy Rose has 2 demos, 4 songs on each one. That could have been a single relase in my opinion! Same for Fatal Violence, Captain kill and others for sure!

Have recognized that label, but was instantly repelled by demanded amounts. At half price I'd still consider them expensive.

I've been interested in checking out some of their releases as well. However, there doesn't seem to be a reasonable/safe way to order from them, and the prices of their releases on Discogs are a bit high for a blind purchase.

Morbid Sin also had an existing CD reissue.

Since Fatal Violence and Enforcer demos were released previously by us on CD format. I've spoken to David and Brian and both told me they had zero imput. David told me the Flynn re-remaster sounds better than the one he did himself for the Fatal Violence CD release in 2008. He was just happy people still cared about the music and sanctioned the release. Not sure he was aware of the price Flynn sold it. Brian on the other hand was quite disappointed with the Enforcer audio.

I havent heard any of Flynn's releases personally, but the fact that bands had zero imput, and in some cases were only made aware post-factum, is enough for me not to support such releases.
