Has any one of you considered doing an internet radio feed?

Playing obscure Heavy Metal? I'd certainly listen.

I don't like radio even if it is playing obscure stuff because I want to listen to what I want when I want.

Sure but how about stuff you don't already know about?

I will find it on my own then.

is that easy to go about setting up? Sounds like a good idea.

Yeah, I did a year or two ago. But then I thought, who listens to internet radio? People tend to listen to mp3s or cds. I'd still like to give it a go thouggh. Better yet I'd like to get on real radio and do it, then stream it worldwide... that would be cool. But to get a "metal" show around here it seems you need to play false stuff and be sponsored by a cocksucker label like Century Media or Roadrunner.

I think it's as easy as having Winamp, a good upstream connection and your collection of stuff at hand.

I like the idea of a real radio station playing real metal forcing idiots to hear real metal, but I wouldn't listen to one myself.

Yeah, and then you need to promote the fuck out of it to actually get a listener-ship (if that is such a word?) :?

I've read a lot of neat looking playlists on the web, but still never checked out the actual internet radio feeds. As cool as such a project might sound I can't really see why anyone would want to listen in on my winamp playlist? Perhaps if you made it "special" in some way, adding interviews, reviews & stuff, but who's got the time for that? And will people really find the time or remember to listen anyway? I did some local radio shows in the 90's and while it was great fun doing it, promotion was a complete bitch. Even getting your close friends to tune in proved bloody hopeless

exactly - even djing hm/hc records in a bar where there is cheap alcohol being served can be difficult to get people to show up

I haven't listened to any radio show for a very long time. And i mean at least 8-9 years. Always prefered to do my own music program at home alone or with a few close friends. Never boring and i was never forced to hear "tracks from the brand new album'' of every fucking bastard that was a trend in that period. 99.9% of the obscurites i know/ i have heard, i learned them through fanzines/internet/word of mouth/alone. What do you expect to hear on radio anyway? The unreleased Morbid Saint album or Leather Nunn's demo tracks? Most of the people who like listening to radio never cared about such things anyway.

I've actually been thinking very seriously about starting a radio show through live365 or something like that. The main reason to do it would be for myself, so I could listen to my own music at work; I also think it would be a way to turn casually-curious people on to my music (I'm thinking of people I meet in the neighborhood, not hard-core collectors like y'all 8) ).

So... it's interesting to see these hostile reactions! I figure if I were to get anything resembling a listener base, it would be from Corroseum members!

I'll let you know if I ever get it started.....

Well I don't really have grip on how big the internet radio phenomenon is, so I was more being sceptical about the time&trouble v/s amount of listeners, but should you start something up I'm sure there's plenty of people here who would tune in + I'd promote it here. Unfortunately I would rarely have the time to check it out myself since I can't play much music at work and I currently don't have a broadband connection at home.

Much appreciated! There's all sorts of legal stuff going on with live365 right now (the record companies are trying to fuck the internet radio broadcasters for exorbitant royalties), so I'm going to wait until that's settled down before I do anything in any case. But I'll keep everyone posted!
