I think it's safe to say that the '78 thread has run out of steam so let's move on...
Avenger wrote:We'll stick to LP/MLP/EP/Single format. Sorry, no demos guys, because that would get too hectic. All sub-genres can be covered. This is not really an issue for the earlier years, but come the mid 80's Metal became a lot more varied.

The Hand Of Doom - Poisonoise.
Thin Lizzy - Black Rose
Riot - Narita
Judas Priest - Unleashed In The Studio
Motörhead - Bomber & Overkill
Legend - From The Fjords

It seems like there were less albums in 1979 and more demo's/EP's.

Saxon - Saxon

Anyone know why that silvertrain album is in metal archives its a 1979 album I wouldn't call it metal at all its a great hard rock album though just another one that slipped through the cracks?

In the hard-rock category, 1979 was the year ACDC released "Highway to Hell" ...

Silver Mountain - Man of No Present Existence/The Axeman and the Virgin 7"

Misery - Restless Strategy 7"
Sex Pistols - The Great Rock 'N Roll Swindle

A rather odd assortment...

Of the full-length stuff, I agree with Legend, Hand of Doom, Survivor and Nokemono, apart from the obvious pieces. A few more good ones bordering on metal are:

Doc Rockit - s/t
Impeccable - Live on the rocks
Blackhorse - s/t (pretty heavy southern rock album)
Poobah - Steam roller (Yeah, it's uneven, but still good)

Yup, some excellent albums put forward already, i'd have to add these two, although they come from more of a Hard Rock direction than full on Heavy Metal.
BLACKFOOT - Strikes
AMULET - Amulet
