why would people deny it because they don't consider them part of your culture because they came to and/or were born elsewhere or because you aren't sure they are Slovenian?

Because once upon a time in Austro-Hungarian empire it was not considered positive to be of non-German speaking provenance. Those who wanted to climb higher in society had to make themselves as German as possible. Before, between and after the WW II. this became the question of survival. That I not continue this sad story, I must say that are all mentioned surnames decidedly Slovenian.

But can you really call someone your countryman if they are born abroad or have lived in another place for generations that is the real question.

Well, there are many (sons of) Mexicans playing in USA bands, for example: Abbatoir, Agent Steel, Wyzard, Militia, Helstar, Solitude Aeternus, but I dont think they can be called "Mexicans abroad".

Well, I suspect Vic Novak from Terror (Cleveland) & Mortician is a Slovenian.

Also one guy who played drums in some Australia metal bands, but I can't remember his name right now ...

I ask the question also. I can't understand the youths down here identifying themselves as being of the nationality of previous generations of their family, when they have lived here since birth! It pisses me off, fuck them and their mentality, amoung their fathers hotted up cars and doof doof music!

alot of those people you named are pretty much americanized,I don't mean to be an asshole about it but that doesn't really count as abroad if they were born in that country,by that logic Mille Petrozza would be considered playing abroad as he is italian.
