listening to this band for the first time. wow! really great stuff. are there any other recordings of this band floating around other than the "do or die" demo and the 7"?

There is another demo I think, and a unreleased LP. I have it all on a CDR somewhere, I can see if I can find it, I haven't got the titles for the songs though I remember.

Anyway, I agree with you totally. Their single from 1983 is so frekin wicked! Love the haunting riffing in Suicide, and the temp changes and, and, and.. EVERYTHING! The B-side is awesome too.

Do or Die is a cool demo, the best song is for sure the title track.

Yeah, I also believe there are two demos and that LP you listed should be the "Rebel Eye EP" from 1989. Or?

I don't know really, since I didn't get any titles from Tim Batkin.

Yep, good one, but not on my NWOBHM top-20 list. I also have that CDR which is supposed to include all their recordings, but as far as I remember the rest of the material wasn't as good as the single.

Yeah, I agree.. The isngle is in their own leage. I would give the single a 10 out of 10. I think it's flawless.

The 7'' is simply incerdible. Street sounding killer NWOBHM. The demos that followed were unbelievably disappointing.

Yeah, the demos dissapointed me alot too. Though do or die is a killer track. But it doesen't sound like the 7en at all!!!!!!

Cynic have recorded an album at Rockfield Recording studio, (RUSH Hemispheres, AFTK) through October 2006 - with vocals at Yellow Shark Studios, February 2007 and final mix The Stone House Studio March 2007. Matt Butler, (RUSH -Hold Your Fire Montserrat, Black Sabbath, Mick Jagger, Pink Floyd, Ian Gillan, Phil Collins etc) was the engineer. Tracks are Suicide, Do or Die, Eight Below, Faithless One, Rebel Eye, Dark December, Ten Years from Now, Suburban Crises.
Its as heavy as hell.

Wooaah! Cool to have a True NWOBHM-profile on our board.

Tim: What's your reflections on the fact that people here (and overall as I've understood) prefer your heavier stuff on the 7" to the demos? Just asking coz I've always been interrested in this typical 80's dilemma of bands compromising heaviness to public appeal and "musical availability". Are we being unfair? In your own words, why do you think the demo stuff turned out different from the single?

An interesting question. I think if Shaun (main Cynic song writer an shared lead guitar with Dom), would answer it better, but I suppose, as I have said before, that music was changing in a totally different direction through the mid to late Eighties - I was listenning to Europe the other day, "Rock Now Rock the Night", Bon Jovi etc, and it was all, (looking back) over produced sanitised, rock. We followed the lead, and I suppose ended up with this smoother less aggressive music. "Our mistake"
I am here to tell you - the album we have just slaved over - takes us right back to our Suicide days - but better in so many ways - for one, we are older and I am pleased to say better musicians, and the sound of Rockfield, (when you have maybe £5K of mics against each speaker - and 10K of mics, and 14 tracks alone surrounding drums) and the very very great Matt Butler driving the desk - it creates a big sound. Those very few who have heard the reference mix from Rockfield, have been very pleased to say how it takes them back to the early Eighties.

It is certainly is the fucking Heaviest album I have heard in ages - and it is as loud as fuck.

So a bit of market research - The album will obviously be out as a CD, but does the market also want downloadable MP3 `s from the Cynic web site, (when we complete it), and or 12" vinyl?
