Semi-spoken vocals praisal thread

Post by GJ »

I've listened to Manilla Road - The Deluge and Cloven Hoof's debut today and realized every record should include at least one part where the singer does some cool/haunting/evil semi-spoken and/or semi-shouted recitative parts? Like in Friction in mass:

"Sacred Laws of old
And ancient spells
Are never lost to those
Born of The Well
The icey wastes of home
Bred into me
A taste for the unknown
A hate for blasphemy
The waters of The Lake
Purify The Soul
But wisdom of The Fates
Always has its toll
The Fires of Mars have burned
Inside of thee
The tides shall soon be turned
By destiny
Evil lords of war
Drunk on virgin blood
Ram through the door
Letting loose The Flood
Titons rise again
Gorgons of Light
The wars now begin
'Tis time to fight"

...or Cloven Hoof:

"Darksome night
and shining moon,
East, then south,
then west, then north.
Hearken to the Witches Rune,
here I come to call thee forth.
Earth and Water,
Air and Fire,
by all the power of land
and sea.
Work ye unto my desire,
as I do will so mote it be.

Queen of heaven,
Queen of Hell.
Horned hunter of the night,
Lend your power unto my spell
and work your will be magic rite.
EKO EKO AZARAK
EKO EKO ZAMILAK
EKO EKO KARNAYNA
EKO EKO ARADIA"

Now I need more of this - only you can give me the tips for this fix I so badly neeeeeed! Help! Help! Satan! Save me!

Honorary mention: Dark Heart/Holosade singer Phil Brown/Phillip De Sade who seem to speak/shout his way through most of the records he's on - in a very fruitful way, mind you.

Gotham City with Ola Ohlsson

Seriously though, the spoken parts can be really cool.

Every single spoken word part ever done for the Lamp of Thoth, and probably all the one's they'll ever do in the future too.
I know I ain't doing much,
doing nothing means a lot to me.

Ah, reminds me of my mid teen days (late eighites) when going upstairs into my older brother's room and borrowing some of his thrash/speed albums. I haven't heard BD since, from what I remember they were pretty cool (by not at all being cool in a mid-late eighties fashion). Now I have to go visit my brother and borrow that stuff again...

Let me think... Ah, the guy saying "Grandfather, tell me a story"

:D

Sorry! Will watch Citizen Kane and The Stranger ten times each to make amends for my blasphemous behaviour.

I was thinking more of half-sung/half-spoken stuff, though. Rather than merely spoken ones. Preferrably with an menacing, fanatic, haunted twist! Not regarded Heavy Metal but I can't think of a song with a darker, more twisted Heavy Metal feel than this:

"Stand for the fire demon
Rising into and with the clouds
Stand for the fire demon
Satan's is his crowd
Stand for the fire demon
Stand and feel it loud

Stand for the fire demon
Past 12 ’tis one and one
Stand for the fire demon
Past 12 ’tis not one
Stand for the fire demon
Burning fiery bright
Stand for the fire demon
Stand for the demon of fire

Stand for the fire demon
Satan's are we, Satan's am I
Stand for the fire demon
Spirits say boo and the paper bursts into fire
Stand for the fire demon
Wilder wilder wilder wilder
Stand for the fire demon
Stand for the demon of fire
Stand for the fire demon"

This is the shit!

Keep it coming!

"Lying, dying, screaming in pain.
Begging, pleading, bullets drop like rain.
Mines explode, pain sheers through your brain,
Radical amputation, this is insane.

Fly swatter stakes drive through your chest.
Spikes impale you as you're forced off the crest.
Soldier of misfortune
Hunting with bated breath.

A vile smell, like tasting death.
Dead bodies, dying and wounded
Litter the city streets
Shattered glass, bits of clothing and human deceit.
Dying [in] terror,
Blood's cheap, it's everywhere.
Mandatory suicide, massacre on the front line."
