What is this! What is this?! There's something in this. Very fragile emotions from this band, yet direct and intentful. They knew what they were doing and now I want to know more. Is there a lyrics sheet in the cd? Is the cd hard to find? I want to buy this from somewhere now, I need to know what they're about. It's not often that HM is fragile yet so opaque as this. The closest frame of reference to this is Steps-era Sieges Even and of course, Fates Warning. Such careful, premeditated composition. Nobody overplays. A strong Rush influence of course, which shaped all of early progressive metal. This is a sure winner. Have you heard the other record? Where would I order these from these days?

I have this on CD, it's not very expensive, you can find it for 15-25 Euros, but unfortunately it doesn't appear on sale very often. There are not many people who are still interested in this band. The lyrics are included and generally the booklet is wonderful. I have mp3s of the other album, i will upload that soon too.

The Steps reference is a bit risky imo, they're not so technical and their music has a very different feeling from that of Sieges Even, why they reminded you of SE? I think that Mayfair's "Behind" and especially the title track is very close soundwise to Xerxes, excluding of course some elements that i've said before.

@Avenger: no, i don't have the demo.

EDIT: Something else i forgot and which is quite interesting: It doesn't necessarily mean that both sound the same, but Mayfair's "Behind" and Xerxes "Beyond..." were released on Swiss label General Inquisitor Torquemado which is a division of Withchunt records

The SE connection is there on these rare occasions in 'Steps' where SE 'open up' their sound and let emotion pour through unhindered... like... 2 minutes of music on the whole album, but they're there and that's what Xerxes remind me of, only they do it much more.

What an enchanting band. Shame I dislike ebay and therefore will have a hard time tracking this down. I want to read the lyrics damn it!

Helm I bought both of Xerxes' CDs in a very known used CD shop in Athens about 1.5 year ago for...5 euros each! It was really...beyond my imagination! :P

hah. I bought the first one online for 20 euros, I don't mind the purchase if it's for music of this quality. Is the second one as good? Anyone know where to get the demo?

I had seen the demo on eBay about 2 years ago but I was outbid! And yes both albums are equally great!
