Re: Same Riff??? (Riff-Off)
Lewd Preacher from Germany made a song "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde " that begins in (almost) exactly the same way as Helloween's "Victim of Fate". Probably they realized that too when creating it cause they introduced keyboards immediately afterwards. But otherwise it is a cool song (if we disregard that lame demo sound) so I don't complain.
Also Poland's Thrasher Death had a song on their 1988 demo with a riff bearing a striking resemblance to that of Turbo's "Syn Burzy". And since "Syn Burzy" was released one year earlier on "Ostatni Wojownik" it can hardly be a coincidence.

Hey Herkus! A bit off topic but your avatar reminded me of this. Have you listened to it? Is this good?

Hell, I forgot they were going to release something new Those tracks I have heard sound quite good - absolutely nothing modern in here - although when it comes to new albums of old power metal masters I would rather spend my money on Medieval Steel "Dark Castle" (will have to listen to Ruthless "They Rise" yet). "Still Standng" hardly seems to be a speedy thing in the vein of "Keeper of the Flame", they appear to follow the style of their second demo much more. Songs are rather midpaced and quite epic. Plus those guys are almost 30 years older and you can hear that too

Opening riff of Sadistic Intent's "Condemned in Misery", previously heard in General Surgery's "Slithering Maceration of Ulcerous Facial Tissue".

The opening guitar riff in Ripper's 'Death Awaits You' sounds identical to the main verse riff in Slayer's 'I Hate You'.
Don't know if i'd call it a rip-off exactly, maybe just great minds thinking alike?

"I Hate You" predates the first Ripper album by two or three years. It was originally on Verbal Abuse's Just an American Band album.bigfootkit wrote:The opening guitar riff in Ripper's 'Death Awaits You' sounds identical to the main verse riff in Slayer's 'I Hate You'.

For some reason i'd thought that song was one of the Slayer originals on that album, didn't know it was actually a cover.Ernest Thesiger wrote:"I Hate You" predates the first Ripper album by two or three years. I'll take my eggy face off to get educated with a quick YT search for the Verbal Abuse original.

Been on a total old school Black Metal binge and I was checking out the Amon demos when I stumbled on what sounds eerily like this famous Thorns/Mayhem riff. I don't think many people outside of Norway had heard the Thorns demos so this is quite odd.

And now i think of it, both are similar to Turbonegro's 'I Got Erection' too:bigfootkit wrote:The opening guitar riff in Ripper's 'Death Awaits You' sounds identical to the main verse riff in Slayer's 'I Hate You'.

The intro to "The Gates" by Angus = "Babylon's Burning" by The Ruts.

Re: Same Riff??? (Riff-Off)
The vocal lines are very similar, not the guitar riffs although they share some similarities. The second is much faster.

Should there be another thread for vocal lines which are almost the same?
