Savagely brutal prog metal - examples

Not Thrash, not Death Metal, not "nu-brutality" but savagely brutal prog metal! Was sth like that released already? I don't seem to remember it, maybe I overslept it. What you think could be close to that combination? How it could sound? Actually more likely to be product of the 90's and forward ... I have some ideas but let's see yours first.

AAHH, that's my cup of tea  I think one of the best examples could be Slauter Xtroyes with "Winter Kill". The approach is definitely savage with emphasis on song structures that could be labeled as prog.

Killer, Sten. Have yet to check it out. I know, I know, shame on me. The only thing that came to my mind, is Acid Bath's crosspollination of Neurosis and Psychotic Waltz. From 90's thoguh. Unfortunately it only lasted one album.* The next example may be Austrian's Hyphen. I said, may be cos' I only read about them. Said to be in similar vein. So no other examples? DaN?

*note: no trace of PW on their second album.

It's not typified yet, there seem to be very few specimens.

Fine region to "discover" sth new. We should have a contest. Bands interested should apply. First prize: eternal glory.

Actually bands from the RIO/Zeuhl school of prog are very very brutal occasionally (in the Stravinsky sense) so perhaps somebody like Guapo or Flying Luttenbachers might suit your taste.

They suite my taste, but not in that classic Metal sense, ya know. The so called "brutal Prog" a la FL, Guapo, Lightning Bolt, Upsilon Acrux, ... may be good inspiration for sth new though.

yeah I don't know any metal bands that play progressive metal with an extremist mindset that don't succumb to idiotic 'technodeath' cliches. It seems when you say 'brutal' in metal, people think they should play like Suffocation. I want Ligeti Metal!

Perhaps Behold... The Arctopus does this best currently.

Behold the Arctopus kick major ass! Check out Dysrythmia in that vein as well, and Canvas Solaris!

Also check out the new collaboration of Jarzombek from Watchtower with Webster, the bassist from Cannibal Corpse and Behold the Arctopus' drummer, they're called Blotted Science and their CD is out for some months now. I didn't like it by the way.

P.S. I dunno about brutality but Watchtower are more "fierce" than a thousand black/death bands put together, nuff said.

I love Watchtower and the likes but I get what Noisenik means about them not being unhinged or brutal. This type of music just doesn't exist yet!

Suffocation is a cool band, I know many fellows here hate technical groups, but they play a very good, melodic, brutal and technical metal. However if a band gets like Dream theater it gets utterly boring it looses to much heavyness.

For what level of brutality we're talking about? If you mean brutal as Suffocation or Napalm Death, then i'll have to agree with Helm: we haven't heard such thing yet.
