I've been revisiting the late 80s/early 90s New England thrash metal scene lately, and my favorite demo is easily ATOMICAUST - Appearance Factor.

Check out the track "Face the Butcher" here:
http://www.myspace.com/atomicaust

The rest of the demo is like that, maybe a bit more progressive but just as thrashy (unlike their later demos).

Is that the band that was featured on Metal Massacre IX? Stupid name for a band, but that's a great song and I'd like to know more about them.

Yes, they're featured on Metal Massacre.
I agree their name is really stupid, but their 2 demos are great, one of the best unsigned band of late 80's !

Oh, and I can't forget this:

Chaos Horde - demo (USA/1986)

It was just reissued as a LP -- awesome obscure thrash metal from Louisiana. They had a forgettable track on a later Metal Massacre compilation, but this demo blows it away in every possible way.

Ever heard the "Sinful Dreams" (1987) demo that they did under the name of Incubus? It's quite good. I think I actually like it a little better than the Spectral Birth demos.
