Hang on - people are disputing whether WASP are a metal band or not???
Umm....
Did any other metal band even out-shock WASP in the 80s? Very few out-rocked them.

False metal band. That was Bob Muldowney's main complaint about false metal having the WRONG IDEA about how to apply this influence. If it is mixed with Motley Crue or Montrose. It is a true statement, that WASP is a false metal act. A hard rock band, with a metal influence. A rock/ metal hybird.
So it is no big deal that most metallers would pass on this watered down corporate hair metal.

Ha....Sorry black axe...I am just a metal fan since 1979, and got into metal throgh rock and roll in 1976, when the band Boston was all over the radio....Sorry if you never had the chance to see 1980's metal, before date 1...January 1st, 1980...1979-1983 was a magical time in heavy metal, and metal has had tons of tons of "gateway" bands, and WASP is one of them.
You claim I do not think what I am talking about since you probably have no idea why KICK ASS monthly was the heavy metal bible for actual true metal fans, back during the hair metal era of false metal.
I only support Snakepit, because that is as close as this generation, will ever get to having something as helpful to metal fans as Bob Mudlowney's "Kick Ass Monthly" I only read mags, such as Slayer, Sounds of Death, Snakepit..and the only website with that spirts is Germanys voices from the darkside.
The best way to avoid the hype bands, is to study the history of the bands that actually contributed to WORLD CLASS HEAVY metal, and leave the posers and frauds ALONE, and ignore at all cost.
I have nothing against WASP, it is a gateway to the REAL DEAL.....

Hang on. WHY are WASP not metal? Is it because you can hear 70s influences in their music? Cos I can hear Hawkwind clear as day in Manilla Road and they ARE metal. And the same goes for tons of bands I'm sure you'd never complain about others calling heavy metal.
Is it because they used hair spray and make-up? Because Blackie used to be in London? Because Bob Muldowney said they were posers? I have to ask, because I don't really see you arguing your case here.

Give me a break with WASP !! Blackie Lawless is and always will be an arrogant poser. His behaviour during their last european tour just confirms this.

I agree with you totally. If Headless Children and Crimson Idol are not metal, I don't know wht it is then. No one dare to say that early Manilla Road and Brocas Helm are outdated hard rock. It's safer slagging Wasp because they are "sell outs". Yeagh right.
And Slayer and Overkill wore make up!!!!!

Probably some people never bothered to check The Headless Children or The Crimson Idol. Dead on about early Manilla and Brocas and how about Pagan Altar as well? Oh wait I forgot, those are kvlt bands and we shouldn't talk about them in that way

I just re-listened to the first and second W.A.S.P. albums and while the second one is nothing to write home about the first one just reeks of heavy metal attitude and riffage. If this is not heavy metal then what is it? False metal? Glam metal? Hard rock? If it's hard rock I would love to see hard rock bands with songs like "Hellion" or "The Torture Never Stops" or even the simple smash of "I Wanna Be Somebody".

I'm a part of these people. Maybe, I miss something (which I doubt) but hell will freeze before I listen to these albums.

Well, it's getting colder each year so it might freeze sooner than you think
I don't know if you'll actually adore them but at least we can hope that you'll admit that they're nothing less than pounding heavy fucking metal

You don't have to like them you know. They may well be metal even if you don't think they're any good. I don't like most of WASPs albums, but some of them (the debut, Headless Children) are great.
FWIW; I think WASP are a borderline case when it comes to being metal or not. Some of their stuff, like the debut, is for the most part metal. On the other hand, there's quite a lot of their stuff which I would say may not be metal. I'm not going to pretend that the heavy metal gods have handed me alone the ability to decide what is and what is not metal though.

If they have to be 101% pure heavy metal on every single note they record, then no they're definitely not metal. On the other hand, if we apply this to other bands as well a lot them might not be that metal either.

Does it really matter if W.A.S.P. are "Metal" or not?
Who gets to decide what "Metal" constitutes?
For some people it's Black Sabbath, for others it's Napalm Death.
In the era when W.A.S.P. initially broke through, the term "Heavy Metal" was applied to bands as disparate as AC/DC
and Venom.
If a band played Hard they were Metal, it was that simple.
All these sub-genre categorisations didn't come until later in the decade, initially as a lazy short-hand for journalists to give readers a rough idea of a band's sound.
I don't think it's served Metal as a whole, or individual bands very well, as the term "Metal" can now mean
almost anything guitar based, and the sub-genre headings only seem to serve to stifle the creativity of a lot of bands who only view themselves as part of a narrow sub-genre.
And those sub-genre names aren't really helpful to those bands who are not so easily pigeon-holed stylistically either.
So if we are, (as The Corroseum motto so proudly states), waging "uncompromising war on metallic modernism" here, let's stop using these narrow modern categorisations all together and get back to using the term "Metal" in a more inclusive way.
As the broad term which we used when the classic sounds which bring us together here were created.
Rant over.
