Is Marquis de Sade the most expensive nwobhm-single? I'm curious as to what e.g. Phyne Thanquz would fetch if up for auction.

He doesn't have a picture sleeve for his Suspect single :D Wonder what that'll bring w/o the sleeve; it's rare but also too light-sounding to be of interest to most collectors. Guess I'll find out in 7 days.
Never got the fascination w/ the Marquis de Sade single; it's decent but IMO it's not the be-all, end-all nwobhm item that many people claim it is. I'll guess (and it's just a guess; I've seen a few copies sold over the years but it's hard to know with these really rare items that are on so many wantlists) that it closes for $650 +/- $100 (I'm not sure how rare the insert is; if it's really hard to get then it'll bring more).
EDIT- Khund:I don't know what PT would sell for currently. Having just checked popsike, it looks like some copies of MdS have sold for a lot more than I realized, so my guess is much too low. I think there are still a few nwobhm singles that will sell a little higher than it

EDIT- Khund: no, several nwobhm singles have brought more than MdS in the past. I don't know what PT would sell for currently

Yeah, was fixing my post when you replied :) Didn't realize it was going for that much these days. I should learn; take whatever number was realistic 4 years ago and multiply by 2 or 3
You're probably in the best position to answer Khund's question regarding which, if any, nwobhm singles are currently selling for more than MdS. Only things i can think of right off are Underdog (no clue what it would sel for), Ritual 'widow' (although that's an LP), and Shock Treatment (was bringing over $1,000, but again, that was 4-5 years ago). I'm sure there are some others that might fetch this much that are unknown to 99% of collectors.

All I can say is 8 years ago I had a copy on my list for 650 and it sold the first day and by the end of the week I had at least 12 people who wanted it. The other thing people don't seem to get is the folks with the cash are not coming to sites like this.

Almost 10 years ago I sold a yellow Avatar to someone for $1500+ just for an investment (they didn't care about the record at all) just knew it would go up in 10 years and bought it. That copy I was told sold last year for +4k not a bad investment.

For the most past the folks who are INTO METAL FOR LIFE (underground) don't have any money. BUT there are plenty of people how grew up in the 80's with this stuff and that are still into it that now put a suite and tie on everyday and are Presidents and CEO's of fortune 500 companies and they buy metal and don't want to get there hands dirty looking for it and they don't want to wait for a DEAL to come along.

MDS is OK, but I find e.g. the second ARC 7" way better and this doesn't go nearly as high (even if it's still expensive and rare), or the Hell 7". I didn't listened to a heapload of Nwobhm singles so far but for these prices I think MDS is okay to not-have (at least for me)

Yeah, i've seen 1-2 sell in that $600 range, which is why I said $650 at first. Obviously i'm not keeping up with the times.
And yeah, I've noticed the 'high rollers' don't post online :)

I remember talking to you about that copy at that time. Yeah, that's not a bad investment. I figured it was in the $2500 ballpark these days; again, I'm obviously low-balling these mega-items pretty badly.

That seems to be a basic rule of nature right next to gravity :)

Makes sense, and if you've got more money than you can spend, why should you wait for a bargain?
I always do wonder how many of these expensive records go to collectors who are rich and how many go to people that just pour every cent they have into their collection.
