I think 1 was in Belgium (there is a chance this was actually the holland or german copy, which is why I'm not certain if it counts as a 5th copy).

there is still another copy of the yellow Avatar in Switzerland you can add to your list. "Officially" there are 7 known copies around...

For PARADOXX I know of at least 7 copies here in Germany. I held all 7 in my own hands....So of the 50 existing there are surely 20-25 copies around in collections worldwide....

Didn't know about the swiss copy, thanks for the info! Where's the 7th? Some of my locations may be outdated since i don't know which copies have traded hands in the past 10 years.

I haven't seen as many copies of Paradoxx myself, but I'd agree that 2 dozen copies or so in collectors' hands sounds about right IMO

Back in 1999, a seller put a wholesale lot of 18 LPs and PARADOXX was one of them. And i won the lot for $87. Most of the collectors back then did not really know the PARADOXX vinyl and keep in my mind that the lot was listed under Music/Records/Heavy Metal category, so everybody had the chance to see it.

Back in 99, not many people used Ebay. So that's obviously the reason, plus it was a pretty unknown record. Around that time I remember Breaker's "In Days Of Heavy Metal" got away for some 2€ or so. I got also some good stuff, pretty cheap. Unfortunately, I was mainly into Black Metal back then, so I picked up Emperor's "As the Shadows Rise" for some 35€ or Burzum's "Aske" CD for 45€. Man, I want that time back.

Those who were using internet before Ebay will remember that the best "place" at the net to buy records used to be the newsgroups. There you would be able to find non-dealers selling records for insanely low prices.
The internet from 1995 to 2000 was simply a collector's paradise.

Even by 98-99 people were catching on to ebay. Items stil fell through the cracks regularly, but some records were definitely bringing top dollar through ebay by '99. I think we all got a few good deals back then though

Many people like me didn't knew what was internet in 1998.

NIGHTCRAWLER : This was the first private U.S. Metal vinyl i ever bought. Still is one of my favorite LPs.

IRON CROSS : This is the record i spent the most money to buy ($280 at Ebay)

HAMMERWITCH : I bought this from a record store in Athens (Monastiraki) back in '99, i think. One of the best bargains of my life, 1.000 drachmas (around $3)

SABRE : Early days of Ebay, before Y2K, for $25.

that just seems weird to me, but I was using it since '92 when I started my first job out of college, so there you go. But I didn't have the $$ for the net at home until much later.

Nice photo. and reasonable prices. $25 for that Sabre is ok too, I'm not too excited about it except the great cover art. Nightcrawler is a nice one, Ifew talk about these days. HAMMERWITCH & IRON CROSS on the other hand, essential records. The I.C. price is really cheap for such a rarity and 100X better record than Paradoxx.

We got internet at home in 1999 and I was one of the first in my class to get that. It was dial-up connection and we paid per minute. I think the internet took off way earlier in the US than in other countries.
I remember napster...30 minutes for one MP3. If you were lucky.

A few more stories:

Story no1.

Around 1998 i found a record dealer at the newsgroups. This guy was buying vinyls in big quantities (from radio stations, collections etc.), no matter the music genre. Some record stores from Europe (and i bet, a few U.S. dealers) were buying from him. I asked him if he had any Heavy Metal vinyls for sale and he told me that it was impossible to sort the vinyls and make lists because ha had more than 100,000 vinyls of all genres and it would take him forever to go through all of them to see which ones were heavy metal.
To my luck there was a small pile of 50 LPs that "looked metal" to him and that pile was easy to check (i have no idea how he storaged all these vinyls) so he made a list of them. Band names and titles, nothing more. I thought what the hell, i'll take them all and he asked only $150 for all 50 LPs with postage to Greece included in the price. About a month later, when i opened the box, i saw that the SAVATAGE was the Par edition and the EXPLORER was the HHH.
All the other records were good metal (to resell), nothing very rare but good clean copies of Omen, Virgin Steele, Mercyful Fate, Manilla Road etc.
