Thank you for the detailed information, Nightblood.
That there has never been any chance of finding a yellow one on the "free market" since its release is for sure, i guess (or am I wrong?)???
I even doubt that one of the bandmembers still has got a copy for himself.
This idea about destroyed copies seems to be realistic too.
While talking about that I'm also doubting that there are still 50 copies of the PARADOXX ep out there (or does anyone know ALL 50 pieces in collector hands?)...

Don't know the Ark Angle one
I'm sure some of the paradoxx albums are destroyed by now. People grow up and record collections get thrown away, or a basement gets flooded or a house burns down or you drop it and break it. I broke a rare elvis record when i was a baby
By 'free market' do you mean on ebay? There have been at least 2 copies sold on ebay: one in 1998 and one in 2004. The '98 copy was a US seller and the auction was ended early. The 2004 copy was sold from Greece and closed at $1525; it's listed on popsike. I know of at least 3 private (non-ebay) sales.Nasty Uwe wrote:Thank you for the detailed information, Nightblood.

This is tough.nightsblood wrote:I broke a rare elvis record when i was a baby

With "free market" I do mean the market world outside the internet, like record fairs or - stores, best sold by non-collectors.
(I don't know how to paraphrase it in another way)
Yes, that is what I'm concerned about.I'm sure some of the paradoxx albums are destroyed by now. People grow up and record collections get thrown away, or a basement gets flooded or a house burns down or you drop it and break it.
Rare records have become even rarer by such inevitable catastrophes.

I know that 3 copies are in the hands of Greek collectors (one of them is mine):

Gotcha. I know the copy that sold for $1,500 in the late 90s was from a dealer and was not on ebay. And price-wise it wasn't a one-off fluke; a second collector was offering the same amount for a copy around that time.Nasty Uwe wrote: With "free market" I do mean the market world outside the internet, like record fairs or - stores, best sold by non-collectors.

I don't know the details of the copy that sold for $4,000 but I *think* it was a non-ebay transaction.
The ebay copy from 1998 was sold (I'm assuming it sold, the auction was closed early) by a non-collector. The auction stated he had bought it directly from the band when it came out and he wasn't a record dealer TMK, but I could be wrong. It reached ~ $175 before disappearing; it only stayed posted a few days. Safe bet that a german, japanese, or greek collector offered him a lot to go ahead and close the auction. I really wanted a copy of the Avatar EP at the time BUT I had no idea any came on yellow vinyl- I thought it was a bootleg! Wasn't until at least 6 months later that I talked with Steve Wacholz and found out it had been legit!

I think many of these collectors care for metal as it is stamps.

Who cares?
Or maybe we should hunt the sperma colour of AVATAR.

"Who cares?"- Anyone who is not filthy rich and is considering spending a lot of money on their hobby, that's who.
We all like heavy metal music. This means there are certain albums we'd like to own in some format or another.
But some releases cost a lot of money; usually b/c they are rare and/or in high demand.
So your options are to either get a cheap format (mp3s, reissue, etc) or spend the money to get an original copy (or wait forever hoping to one day find it at a flea market for $1).
If you're gonna try to get the expensive version, it's only natural that you want to know what a fair price is, and how often will a copy show up for sale. Thus, you want info on price, pressing size, and known copies.
Sorry if I'm being pedantic; I know the 'stamp-collecting' side of Metal annoys some people, but it's unavoidable unless everyone is either filthy rich or content to just get mp3s and reissue cd's to listen to.

I don't understand you.nightsblood wrote:"Who cares?"- Anyone who is not filthy rich and is considering spending a lot of money on their hobby, that's who.

Are you sure these LPs and that collection is not for the filthy rich?

I don't know if for you or your country spending thousands of euros in 10-20 LPs is easy but at least in my country or all people i know seems unreal.
I think these people which i refered are 40 old men who were let's say 25 in late 90's and bought most of these records for a today's price of 10-50 euros.

Some of the collections arund here are very high-end for sure, but plenty of collectors don't go after everything. Some folks may try to pick up a few expensive records, so they're not necessarily spending thousnads of euros on 10-20 LPs.
The number of potential buyers drops off quickly with increasing price. A lot of folks refuse to pay more than $50 or $100 for any one record, and that's fine. But if someone does want to pay that much for a record, they want to know as much about it as possible. No one who's working on a budget- which is 98% of metal collectors- wants to pay $100 for a record and THEN learn that it's not too hard to find copies for $50.
I think the demogrpahic varies; some folks here are indeed pushing 40 and bought a lot of their collection really cheap 20 year ago. But some of them were paying top prices for some items 20 years ago, and some are newer collectors who are picking dtuff up only in the past 5-10 years. But yes, it only makes sense that most of the top colections have been assembled over a long period of time; also gives the owners more time to find some nice records at reasonable prices

First of all, i bought my first Hard Rock/Heavy Metal LP back in 1983. I am not collecting everything (like stamp collectors), good music is the first priority.
I never paid extreme prices for a record, i just can't.
You see i am not rich and i am married with 2 children and many family expenses.
As for PARADOXX now, believe it or not i bought it at EBAY!!!
Back in 1999, a seller put a wholesale lot of 18 LPs and PARADOXX was one of them. And i won the lot for $87. Most of the collectors back then did not really know the PARADOXX vinyl and keep in my mind that the lot was listed under Music/Records/Heavy Metal category, so everybody had the chance to see it.
The only way to make a good collection if you don't have a lot of money is patience and knowledge.
P.S.: The other 2 Paradoxx oweners are Kiki and Chris S.

your ebay score of this copy is Legendary! The only reason you got it was luck. It was a quite well known record even there and it was bundled in a lot, which I never noticed until I heard about it after the fact from another collector.
$87 is just about the right price for that record.
