Next week I'll make a special upload with the complete compilation, sleeve, label, linernotes and all. I still have some of the professionally printed covers laying about somewhere, but my notorious lazyness forbids me to mail them out. I'll bring a bunch on some future festival..

(it's OFICIALLY the coolest Metal underground compilation ever made 8) )

just a question to Russian Death/Thrash Metal experts:

I really like the Holostoj Vystrel LP, and I like to know if other old Death/Thrash bands are worth a listen, or should be avoided (like Legion):

Death Vomit
Krüger
Mortem
Mortifer
Trashmachine

Oh no.no ,some misunderstanding here. Legion are NOT to be avoided!
Except ''Knights Of Cross'' all their other discs are fine.
As for the Death/Thrash genre, I think that Korrozia Metalla were the best.

Death Vomit extreme death metal, pretty good, very brutal
Krüger my all time fave death metal band, like early morbid angel
Mortem sound like cannibal corpse
Mortifer thrash, pretty good stuff
Trashmachine long time since I heard them, don't even remember
also if you want Russian DM check out Necrocannibal, extreme DM from 1993

No, not worth looking for. I have the Monsters of Rock comp-LP (where KRUIZ are futured, and they totaly suck). They are a good exaple of a band who needed money for booze and ladies in old Russia, with their "sleazy" Hard/speed rock.

I happen to think their 'Kruiz-I' LP is a masterpiece!

Those 2 tracks are hardly their best material. Their second s/t LP is chock-full of killer, powerful HM anthems. Hardly as original and "russian-sounding" as for instance MAGNIT or ARIA, but VERY catchy stuff. "In Flames" can be found on this album but it's far from the best song in there. The vinyl debut ("Kruiz-1") is a bit more diverse - some softer stuff, some heavier/faster - but not as memorable as the 2nd LP.

two further questions:
* Was the Necrocannibal released on LP or re-released on CD, or is this a tape-only elease ?
* from Kruger I know they released Rozhdenniy Mrakom as LP. But was their debut Satan's Embryo also released on LP or only on tape. I remember having read somehwere about a CD-rerelease, but can't prove.

Thanks.

As far as I know, the Necrocannibal album was only released on tape. I had it in the mid-90s. I don't think it has been re-released.
The "Satan's Embryo" album has now officially been re-released on CD. You can find it very cheap on Ebay. The strange thing is that everyone in Russia said that this record was never released on vinyl (it was unreleased I think), but on the obi from the CD re-release it says that it was originally released on vinyl... So I have no idea.

Hmm, here's one pretty fucking obscure band from Russia: APOKALYPSIS with their album "Den' Gneva" (yes, MAGNIT also used that title, among others)! Check this stuff out, it's definitely worth a listen. The whole album is downloadable from the site:

http://www.realmusic.ru/apokalypsis/

Interesting note: their CD (?) is handled by the same studio/label/whatever that was behind the latest VARVAR "release" mentioned in another thread.

Ok, just some recommendations.

What's the best Aria? Black Obelisk?

How hard is it to find that Holostoj Vystrel LP?

Do not know much about the theme except I remeber liking Black Coffee 20 yrs ago and also saw Avgust and Shah live in 1987! Shah was HEAVY for that time and circumstance!

7 yrs ago I sent many Russian Lps to Rainer Krukenberg (rock/thrash/death metal). Now I have kept only Black Coffee to myself!
