Plus, tapes are such a flawed format. All it takes is a simple slip up of your tape deck and the cassatte is as good as garbage.

I suppose that's true, however, growing up with cassettes, I still have bad memories of unravelled tapes.stormspell wrote:...or you can drop vinyl on a hard floor and it can crack ...Avenger wrote:I'll vouch that statement.perishinflames wrote:If that tape was put on ebay it would probably only get $20. You haven't truly experienced life until you've had your Walkman eat your favorite tape. The horror... but I have plenty of fond memories with my cassettes, staying up with friends for all night dubbing sessions, you just can't get that kind of satisfaction with digital. I don't really buy too many anymore, but I do have a certain fondness for them.
anybody know what is difference between two?

There was already a discussion about that lately (maybe another thread ?).
The result was that they are two different pressings made in the same year, which is the first one is not known :p
Just buy the one you can get for lower. And avoid the Fringe press, that is from 1990 and not 1987 as stated in MS (if you're looking for 1st press).

Maybe, maybe not. Neither pressing is exactly rare, and who knows how many boxes full of the Fringe CDs Recped is still sitting on. He's been constantly selling them on ebay for years.
I kinda think the black disc is the first press. Metal Blade used Nimbus pretty exclusively in the late 80s / early 90s, the black versions (of several CDs) have matrices from a different plan so I would guess they are earlier. No proof, just my assumption.

From what I've seen on eBay the metal blade press is quite a bit easier to get. Pips up more often, maybe twice more often? Thats my impression. But the final prices are similar. Guess most people don't give a damn which press they buy and it's hard to blame them
I wouldn't trade my Fringe press for the Metal Blade. Is anyone sure that it is actually from 1987?
The date is stated on the disc itself and the back insert.pan_Heathen wrote:Is anyone sure that it is actually from 1987?
Metal Blade/Enigma and Metal Blade/Restless pressings always have the original date and the CD issue date printed.

Just buy a decent tape deck and this problem will be gone. Although having said that, I do own Nakamichi and it "ate" a tape the other day. Being Nakamichi it didnt unravel it more than few millimeters before the protection kicking in, but it took awhile to open the nest with all electronics going berserk...Avenger wrote:I suppose that's true, however, growing up with cassettes, I still have bad memories of unravelled tapes.

Today I own a total of 4 tapes and they have all been ripped to my hard drives so it's not a problem for me anymore.stormspell wrote:Just buy a decent tape deck and this problem will be gone.
