Nightlock wrote:Great guilt trip postyou would have to be a bit of a dick to bid on it after reading how much you want it though. At least I'd certaintly feel like an arsehole after reading it then bidding, Anyway I'm contempt with vinyl - GREAT album.

Yah, I would have been the world's biggest asshole if I had bid on it anyway after reading his request for all of us here NOT to do that!

Thanx! It's one of the CD's that always eluded me & this time I'm going to try everything to get it & the cheaper I can pay for it the better, that's why I thought I'd let ya'll know

Maybe we can start a 'I'm bidding on, don't snip me' thread??
Gay I know, but...

Not a problem. If I know the person that is bidding on a CD, I tend to back off.Korgüll wrote:SideShow wrote:Yah, I would have been the world's biggest asshole if I had bid on it anyway after reading his request for all of us here NOT to do that!![]()

I tend to do that with some of my collector / trading buddies I know. I let them know what I'm going after, and they do the same so that we're not cutting each others throats for stuff. I wouldn't mind a thread designed for said purpose.

The idea of a "I'm Bidding on ___, Don't Snipe Me" thread is interesting but it might not work. It would heavily favor people that have lots of time to surf ebay. Is it really fair to ask others to not bid on an item just because you saw the listing before they did? I suspect the idea would fall apart as soon as an item came up that 2+ people really wanted.
An alternative would be for potential bidders to discuss among themselves how much they are each willing to bid on an item, and have those who are bidding smaller amounts agree not to bid against whoever is putting in the largest bid so as to avoid running up the bid on the high bidder.
For this idea to work, people would have to be honest and reveal the maximum amount they are willing to bid on the item, otherwise the system wouldn't work. Whoever claims the highest bid would also be obligated to enter that amount and not less. An example:
A copy of Bawlyn Chayne's 'smell the love' single comes up for sale on ebay. I start a thread to see who intends to bid on it. Keir and Nightlock say they're both serious about winning it. The 3 of us discuss via pm how much we will each bid. Keir wants to bid $50 max, I'll bid $53 max, and Nightlock will bid $55 max. Keir and I then let Nightlock know we won't bid against him since he's willing to pay more than we are; we can't beat his bid, so we won't run the bid up against him. Nightlock bids at least $55, maybe he wins it for that, maybe he loses, maybe he gets it for less.
Things that cannot happen:
1- After we each reveal how much we're willing to pay, I see that I'm just a few dollars behind Nightlock so i tell him, "I changed my mind and will bid $56". That results in a faux bidding war and allowed me to figure out what my competition was willing to bid so I know how much to bid in order to beat them.
2- Nightlock wins the right to bid, but Keir and I decide to go ahead and put our bids in anyway, thus wasting everyone's time and running up Nightlock's bid.
3- Nightlock tells us he's willing to bid $55, but then only enters a bid of $40, thus screwing us out of a chance to win it.
4- Keir and I get pissed off b/c Nightlock bids $55 but wins it for $48.
Two main things to remember: this setup would only work as long as the people involved are true to their word, and it certainly doesn't guarantee the highest bidder will win the item; all you're really doing is weeding out the few potential competitors who are willing to partake in the pre-bid deliberations. This last point is crucial and may mean that the system isn't worth the time and effort it would take to coordinate it.

I agree with nightsblood or at least what *I* think nightsblood is trying to get across...it will cause too much friction and it's really not fair just because someone sees something first that they deserve all rights over everyone else.
Like nightsblood is saying the only way it's going to work if everyone trusts everyone else and after already placing my trust with someone on here who raised a bid on a rare tiem I was bidding on after I told him my max bid I don't want to do that again. It's jsut going to cause unneccasary tension. Keep ebay fun and if you get outbid by someone else who has more money than sense, no big loss I'm sure there's always another time/time to save (everything in the metal world seems to have a price) and if you're not willing to pay the price asked then you simply don't want it enough to own it.
I was the one who started the thread on ebay user names and to be honest I've VERY rarely bid against members from here.

How about this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0255849096?
It's a very good heavyprog album, if amateurish, but look at that price, and there's still a while to go.
