Iron Maiden - Self titled is my favorite, it was also the first LP I ever bought. In my opinion they were at their best with Dianno and Burr in the lineup.

The first one is my favorite, followed by Killers. It's the atmosphere, the intensity and the urgency, the "we have to show the world now!" attitude and of course Di'Anno's vocals that make them sound so special to my ears. The Dickinson era albums are great too and I enjoy listening to them anytime, especially Somewhere in Time which is near perfect or Seventh Son which was the first Maiden album I listened to, but nothing gets the hair on the back of my neck stand up like the first two albums do.
Brief silly dialogue with my gf the other day, who is a total stranger to Heavy Metal, sticking to her jazz related stuff:
- I downloaded and listened carefully to the first two Iron Maiden albums and I like them.
- The first two Maiden albums are the better ones blah blah blah Paul Di'Anno nwobhm blah blah blah.
-..... (puzzled silence)
- Maiden and Iron Maiden are the same band you know....
- Oh!

Hey, I can't make her buy them. I don't really want to.

Agreed.
And I would love to see your Iron Maiden collection, James.
Hey Shaun,
Unlike what most people think,my Iron Maiden collection is pathetic. The only rare stuff I've got are the Japanese First Ten Years box set,a unreleased tracks cd and a boot Soundhouse Tapes lol....
Haha...
I would of thought that you would have quite a vast collection when it came to your favorite band.

Haha, obviously you haven't heard my views of the nearly to the point of ridiculous, over-used chorus's that this album is filled with. Not to mention, the super synthesized guitars.
Don't get me wrong, the album isn't bad, it's just not up there with the essential stuff that the band put out earlier.

Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter is a great track from a great album, but No Prayer for the Dying have better songs, like Tailgunner, Mother Russia, or my favorite from that album: PUBLIC ENEMA NUMBER ONE

I don't remember if I posted here before, but my favorite Iron Maiden album has always been Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Such a masterpiece. Runner ups are Somewhere in Time and NOTB.
Other essential Iron Maiden facts:
# Paul Di'anno's singing is really, really lame. That's why the first two aren't nearly as enjoyable as the 80's albums with Dickinson.
# The first two albums in the nineties provided a drastical dip of quality. In fact, Fear of the Dark pretty much has only two or three worthwile songs.
# Blaze Bayley was a terrible choice for Iron Maiden, but in fact the albums with him weren't that bad. Virtual XI is particularly under rated.
# Dance of Death is a dreadful piece of shite.
# Judging from the last album, which was a lot better than above mentioned dirt pile, Iron Maiden cannot write hard hitting straight metal tracks anymore, but they still have awesome long epic tracks in them.

Public Enema No1 is a great track indeed. And NPFTD is a killer record imo. Does anybody remember the track called Fate's Warning from that lp? A killer one as well................

I already voted "Killers" but for now I might also vote for "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" for being something unique and incredible. Maiden is a force to reckon with and I'm absolutely in love with their last album: an epic masterpiece!!!

No way! I quite fancy that album. They should have left out the last three tracks though (Journeyman is fucking lame). Montségur might be their best track since the Powerslave-era.
