Interesting topic.

I think (as stated by others) that this depends on where you live.
Neither me nor my metal friends would fit to the definition of being poor since we've got shelter, daily food, work/study and are able to buy records/attend concerts monthly.

I've said enough already here. Metal worship is above poverty or richness.

You're absolutely right, but this topic is worth being discussed by us.

In the 80's i had this friend who worked every night in a open supermarket selling fish,meat and vegetables. Every night even in weekends. Sleeping in day working by night. Low qualifications and he started doing that with 15. Very bad salary. Half of mine at the time. You should see his hands: like rock with so much work. He lived in a very old buiding always using same old clothes. But all his little money went for Metal stuff and what great taste he had. He never regreted his situation and i always apreciated him because he was a humble still good human being and a IMMENSE metalhead.

This topic is quite funny. If you invest every fuckin' Cent you earn in vinyls and demos how do want to become rich? Family? Who needs a family if he can have Heavy Metal instead? Eat less, buy more vinyls!

I think the problem with this thread is the title itself.
It implies (to me) that most of us have no money for music but that is not the case at all (from what I "know").

Even though 2/3 of us are not able/willing to pay PARADOXX prices I guess that they don't starve from hunger or having no shelter.

In my opinion "poverty" (being poor) means to not have food every day and therefor buying music has become luxury.

Yes, "poor" is quite subjective. I have lived with little money most of my life, single parent household and my mother is a teacher so has never made much money. We qualified for government aid for most of my early years. But poor? I don't really think so. I never lacked any essentials. Now I am a student, so I'm not very well off, but I do spend a lot of money on records so I'm not "poor". I sacrifice in other areas of my life to support my record-buying habits. I don't go out, I don't have cable, an expensive cell phone, expensive clothing, my car is older than I am, my place is really crappy, etc. Due to my past life experience I am used to living on the bare minimum, so I have no problem with it. So what money I do have left over after covering my very basic expenses can be spent on the things I love. I get more enjoyment out of the records I buy than say, moving into a nicer place for the remainder of my college years. A roof is a roof to me (at least at this point in my life). It's all about your priorities, mine are probably a bit skewed but I really don't care.

Your English is great. Never had any problems reading your posts. Especially compared to us Americans who generally can't speak a lick of any other language.

I like milk and cake, but being a diabetic I should not touch that stuff. So I have settled for the poverty-ish beer and chips/crisps diet - which still makes for a healthy gay time.

Politicians and rich people could be called cake eaters, but who are the milk drinkers?
