The single is ok but nowhere near that incredible demo.nightsblood wrote:Last Tyrant 7" I saw on ebay (maybe 6 months ago) closed at over $800. Glad it's not on my wantlist (and no, I don't already own it)

Earning good money I think. I understand why someone would buy a vinyl record for that price ($300), I do sometimes. But I'll never understand buying a cd for that price which occurs pretty often at ebay now.Avenger wrote:I could never understand how vinyl collectors can afford to buy rare albums at $300+ a piece...

QFT CD collectors are the ones that really get me I can understand collecting a rare CD and paying a lot if it hasn't been re-issued but what I don't understand is paying heaps when an official re-issue with a huge booket, bonus tracks etc is available. The Sentinel wrote:Earning good money I think. I can explain why I at times pay good bucks for a cd that has already been reissued.
1. remastering. most cds remastered after 96 are so compressed/loud that they lose any emotion that the album once had. not to mention quite a few of them have clicks/pops that the originals didn't have
2. bonus songs suck 99.6% of the time. period. they add nothing, in fact, they usually detract from an album's awesomeness.
I have no problems with early 90s remasters or some recent remasters, I own a few myself, I just prefer to own the original.

Agree 100%. No added value. Ditto for bonus tracks on Japs versions. In most cases it was exclusive averageness for japanese customers.Ensiferum2k7 wrote: 2. bonus songs suck 99.6% of the time. period. they add nothing, in fact, they usually detract from an album's awesomeness.
I am ... the One you warned me of
That's also b'cos the domestic pressings of Jap releases are more expensive than the imports. Hence the reason for the bonus track.. to keep the sales of domestic pressings going...Noisenik wrote:Agree 100%. No added value. Ditto for bonus tracks on Japs versions. Actually we should start a new thread of 'Best Jap bonus tracks' ...so we can all go hunting for them...??!

Why are a wise man & a wise guy opposites?
I do understand if people are paying $300 for REALLY RARE CDs, the one that appear for sale maybe once every 2, 3 years, even if there's a reissue around - after all some people just collect original CD pressings (1st or at least very early pressings), just like the others are collecting vinyls and will still pay $1000 for original Leather Nunn LP, although there's a reissue on a CD together with 4 great bonus tracks ...
but what I don't understand is that stuff like that Wolf Spider ($200), Despair ($300) and now that Devastation which is already over $200 go for such insane prices, although there's a copy only on ebay every few months at least. On the other hand I've seen way more copies of Morbid Saint CD on the ebay in last year and a half than let's say Wolf Spider's CD, so from that point of view it would be somehow logical that Wolf Spider goes for more. But Morbid Saint was always an expensive CD, and that Wolf Spider used to cost $20 ...
So where's the reason for those prices? Some buyers just don't know how often some CD is available and how pricey is it? Or maybe two buyers, who always get what they want at all costs?
I have too paid more than $100 for few CDs, but all of them were really rare, and most likely the only copy I've seen offered for sale too ...

Now the question is Mr. Sovdat, what did you pay for Sanctum and Axiom CD's?sovdat wrote:I do understand if people are paying $300 for REALLY RARE CDs, the one that appear for sale maybe once every 2, 3 years, even if there's a reissue around - after all some people just collect original CD pressings (1st or at least very early pressings), just like the others are collecting vinyls and will still pay $1000 for original Leather Nunn LP, although there's a reissue on a CD together with 4 great bonus tracks ...

Do those fall into that category?

I agree also. I can understand if it's a song that wasn't available anywhere else, but a lot of times it's just a demo or live version of a song already on the album. How is that a bonus?Noisenik wrote:Agree 100%. No added value. Ditto for bonus tracks on Japs versions.
