Don't you like Rose Bayonet? Good rough NWOBHM worship. Better than Ivory Tiger. I just wished they'd use a rythm guitar during their solos. This way with only bass, drum and solo guitar the song just sounds too thin. The Leprosy "Brutal occupation" demo suffers from this kind of recording technics as well plus a couple of other albums/demos.daniel wrote:Ok, I'm jealous of Ivory TigerWouldn't mind Rose Bayonet either, though the cover > the music.

Exactly my thoughts ... to use these live trax wasn't a great idea, but the ballad on side B sounds pretty fine too.Khnud wrote:I LOVE Rose Bayonet, at least the a-side. The b-side is strange and sounds completely different. They should have released this as an EP instead.

Apparently the band only ever had a single guitarist so it's more realistic to have a single guitar in the recording at a time. I'm not big on single guitar bands that have both a rhythm guitar and lead guitar on their recordings. This is obviously done through overdubs and then of course the band would suffer from sounding different live unless employing a touring guitarist.Prowler wrote:Don't you like Rose Bayonet? Gave it another listen just now to be sure, and yeah it's really mediocre stuff, simple and primitive in the wrong way as it lacks power or mystical atmosphere... Not directly related but Axemaster and Thatcher came to mind in that they fail to deliver in a similar fashion. Ivory Tiger isn't -amazing- either but it has that something here and there that I like, and it's annoyingly hard to find a copy, especially when I don't bother with eBay.

I agree with Thatcher, they aren't any good, but Axemaster?
Just listened to Rose Bayonet yesterday again and it seems there's just 1 guitar track recorded. That maniac has played every song in just one take completely with solos and squealing. But due to the missing second guitar it indeed lost some power but still it's very rough Metal. I just wonder why they'd use that recording technique, must be a 4 track recording then. 1 track for each instrument and vocals. Pretty strange ...

AXEMASTER are shite.
ROSE BAYONET are very average, very basic stuff, nothing special
THATCHER's EP is pretty good, especially "Esmeralda"
Opinions differ, obviously
