I have been to all 12 KIT's until now and this one had a very very bit the spirit of KIT 1. Ok, it was not that hot as KIT 1 (almost 40 degree it had in 2003 that day and I still remember the good time when KIT was in summer, it was unique...)

But not only because of the heat but my impression watching the whole thing from the metal market stall was that it really was very peaceful and all people were in great mood.

I did not see any agression inside the venue (but heard of some stuff outside and during the night. I knew that outside it was different, so it was luck that there was good weather and all those people only coming for party were outside. On a rainy day it would have looked different inside I think) and not so many people ultra drunk.

It was really fun this time, also meeting all those (mostly) short-haired young posers from the forum there :-)

For the music part I had those impressions

on Friday

LIZZY BORDEN
Business as usual. A tight and well played set

ABATTOIR
For me a bit disappointing, don't know if it was because of the sound or it was so late. It was ok but did not meet my expectations

TYRANT
Legions of the dead is a milestone in my soul, something very important in my life and I really enjoyed the show. One of the highlights for me, killer!

EXXPLORER
I enjoyed the show, could have listened to this for 12 hours, nevertheless it is difficult music to play on such a festival, I could compare it with Sacred Oarth. I also LOVED Sacred Oath show and music but it has something intellectual. No music to enjoy that easily live as the NWOBHM band playing songs for the drunk people that wanna sing" Running Free"

EXUMER
Fucking hell, one of the worst bands ever on KIT

RUTHLESS
One of my Top 10 US metal bands, I adore each Ruthless track ever recorded. Only bad thing. Some killer tracks missing unfortunately.

CLOVEN HOOF
Business as usual. KILLER! As written in all other comments: Unbelievable vocals...

ASKA
Actually sth not important for me but now I get a fan of ASKA. Great tracks and almost the best sound of the KIT festival

ATLANTEAN KODEX
For me personally by far the best of the doomish styled band. Well played show, no torture like PROCESSION or TGOS slumber for me...

IN SOLITUDE
Great opening act for KIT! Great music, the vocals could be improved for sure.

Saturday

ARMORED SAINT
Business as usual, a really professional metal band, tight performance , a worthy headliner!

NWOBHM ANNIVERSARY
On the one had very great moments in the venue all people singing and banging, for sure an unbelievable moment in KIT history (reminded me of TYRANT'S REIGN's on KIT 3 performance when all got crazy), on the other hand seen from the maniacs and collectors view there could have been more unknown NWOBHM jewels but maybe it did not fit for this 2000 people audience so it was perfect like this. Only critic: Harry is a US metal singer and he does not fit at all to any NWOBHM-track.

PICTURE
My only missed band..

ZOUILLE
One of the greatest moments in my second metal life...like seeing Tyrants Reign at KIT 3, Brocas Helm on KIT 1 or Deadly Blessing at Swordbrothers.
I left the stall behind me and got in front of the stage to catch a magic moment when Zouille played my favorite Sortilege track ever. "Chasse le dragon". One of the few KIT 12 moments with melody and emotions in music, this was missing at 90% of the other bands. An unforgettable highlight seeing all those 45 years old motherfuckers in front row singing. I also loved the Furious Zoo and Furioso songs. Would have loved to hear Hantson play "Fils Du Metal" but it did not happen.

LIVING DEATH
What the fuck was this? Toto, I hate you.

RIGOR MORTIS
I did not enjoy it but honestly said I've never been a big fan of Rigor Mortis anyway.

MILITIA
Another magic moment for me hearing Mr. Soliz scream and sing like that.
The demo songs are loved by most but I enjoyed the instrumental " The Sybling" the most apart from the godly vocals...

THE GATES OF SLUMBER
It was a pain for me

PROCESSION
The ultimate pain for me that day, don't ask me why. Simply not my kind of music. If I would commit suicide I would probably listen to a Procession record.

DEJA VU
Reminded me sometimes of Accept-ish metal style, good opener for day two.

Too much text now, most things have been written anyway before. See you all next year...

Will you upload this anywhere? Would be cool to see myself back...

So I guess I should write down my opinion aswell. Exumer, opinions here range from bad to ok but I really enjoyed the show. Not the best reunion show ever, but I had a blast on the frontrows anyway. Also saw a piece of the Abattoir set but memory is kinda vague on this. I remember liking it, but I can't remember which songs they played. Then Lizzy Borden is even more of a blur. Those guys don't play my kind of music and I only remember my girlfriend pointing out the chicks making out with eachother.
Second day then. Militia was kind of a surprise to me. Especially enjoyed the faster, more thrash metal alike songs. Good performance! Rigor mortis, good sound, good songs, very agressive. Would have enjoyed it more from the front of the stage but I was all bruised up from the day before so I saw them from somewhat back in the crowd. Best musical performance this year probably. Living death, well let's not talk about that. 2 or 3 good songs and one snoozefest otherwise. NWOBHM anniversary, the concept turned out better then I expected. But at the end of the day I'm not a big NWOBHM fan. Was cool to see the great crowd reaction though. Then Armored saint, I was glad when they left the stage.

Saw some good bands, saw some bad bands. Didn't see some bands I wanted to see, but that's always the case. When the weather is so fine sometimes I just enjoy having a chat outside in the sun more then standing inside that greenhouse hall. The atmosphere, weill it is probably still unmatched. Only down: someone stole 2 of my friends sleeping bags.

Seems there were some real arseholes there thieving things then. Scumbags.

Also, I am all for having a drink at a festival but I have never understood getting so drunk that you can barely stand. What is the point of paying for a ticket if you spend the whole time passed out on your back??

I think with "War Of The Ring", "Running for the line", "Seven Days of splendour", "Rainbow Warrior" we had lots of obscure songs as part of the set. Some people should think, that the NWOBHM not only consisted of obscure singles. Harry was brought to KIT for this show to show the influence of the NWOBHM on the early US Metal scene and I think it worked perfectly. I personally was really emotional during the complete show.

If it was only about the festival ticket then maybe i'd say to hell with it. But having to travel from outside of Germany and paying for an airticket + hotel + rent a car and all that hassle just to get blind drunk, that is something i cannot understand at all.

Well, maybe bands like SAMSON didn't have that much influence on US metal, however bands like GRIM REAPER surely did. I think Harry was terrific on "See you in hell". I may sound somehow blasphemous, but imo he crushed Steve Grimmet on that particular track.

It’s kinda weird when the Best Band Of The Festival turns out to be the cover band. OK, they were a whole lot more than a mere cover band, but the NWOBHM-show saved KIT VII for me. Great selection of songs and guests you’d never thought you would see on one stage 10 years ago.

…and I can only join the choir of the damned: Living Death was disappointment #1. Funny thing is I was trying keep my expectations low. LD are next to iconic for me, but since they haven’t played together since the late 80’s I figured maybe their playing would be a bit off, the stage performance not that great etc.. When they opened with “Grippin’ A Heart” I was all smiles even if Toto’s vocals weren’t exactly like in the old days. Good enough playing, decent stage performance from Toto, but the setlist.. my fuck what were they thinking!?!? The nicest most positive thing I could say is that at least they played the best songs from the worst albums and maybe you can’t blame them for being out of touch with their audience after all these years. Still a fucking waste of a first/last reunion show ever :(

Disappointment #2: Me missing a lot of great bands for a number of various reasons. IN SOLITUDE and ATLANTEAN CODEX – we had to take a later flight this year, CLOVEN HOOF – someone told me it was RUTHLESS who started so I took a walk outside and only caught the last 3-4 songs. I’ve seen them twice before and I did get “Highlander” so it wasn’t a total disaster. THE GATES OF SLUMBER and most of MILITA – we HAD to take the car and find some decent food at least once during the weekend and thought we’d be back for most of it. Of course we weren’t. Then there were a few conscious decisions to skip some shows in favour of beers & Metal-talk outside. In hindsight I kinda regret not catching more of PROCESSION, PICTURE and LIZZY BORDEN. What little I saw was above expectations.

More good things:
TYRANT – A very positive surprise. Haven’t been listening too much to their albums but I sure will now. I was a bit too drunk at this point though. When ABATTOIR got on stage my head had got slightly clearer and they did one of the best gigs of the fest.

RIGOR MORTIS! An awesome energy boost on a tired Saturday afternoon. They played all my fave songs and thrashed the stage to Gehenna.

ZOUILLE – I like SORTILÉGE but I’m no die hard fan, so I had no special expectations. They proved to be great when doing the Sortilége-songs, but maybe the setlist was a bit too all-over-the-place.

Nothing of interest to add about the rest of the shows and part of shows I caught. Only just now when writing this I realized how much I missed HELL. Musicwise this turned out to be one of the weaker KITs for me personally - HELL would have turned that around. Still, meeting up & hanging out with some of the people here + other too seldom seen faces was as always half the fun. Not to mention the Metal Market :D

@humus: The video was taken with my mobile phone. 18 seconds long, very poor sound and video, but you still see the pit well, as it was recorded on the terrace. I'll try and convert it to a format more suitable for posting on the net.

Besides, his wailing is similar to a certain Mr. Dickinson's. :)

I cried my eyes out during Rainbow Warrior and Seven Days Of Splendour. Enough said.

Well that was my first KIT and was probably the second best festival experience of my life so far. I'm not going to go into any detail right now, as I wrote a pretty long post on a different forum, but I just want to say thanks to all the folk I met over there and especially the Nabel & the Finns and Dan & the Swedes for knocking back some beers with me (but not nearly enough).

Let's see some ridiculous photos of forum members drunk and pulling funny faces at KIT.

I asked that, cause he was always saying how cool was everybody there. He found two phones and both times asked around to whom they belong ...
