Since I'm partially responsible for this thread by requesting the Dark Ages EP, it's only fitting that I eventually listen to it.
Well, you tried to warn me. It's not as bad as I imagined. I probably won't listen to it again, but thanks for satisfying my curiosity.
Some records which also deserve to be in this thread:
- Red Machete, "Pull The Rope" single
- Odyssey, "Breakaway" EP

I would like to hear these 2, especially Red Machete as that single has been on my wantlist for years. Do you have their 2nd 7"? That is the only one I've managed to acquire.

It's AOR/HR. Not bad, nothing to do with metal though.

LOL! No, I don't have their 2nd single, it's been on my wantlist for years.
I tracked down the guitarist years ago. He said he thought the 2nd single was much better than the first, but didn't have any extra copies of it.
Basically they were just a bunch of young kids on the first single.
I'll upload it for you.

Everyone got the first MITHRANDIR 7" (Magic)? It's really not that bad, but extremely primitive pre-teen Metal a la "Girls & Boys" comp LP. Uploaded on request.
...and I don't suppose anyone got a rip of the legendary WHEELZ OF STEEL album? Rob? Any leads?

Nope, need that first MITHRANDIR 7". please upload...
Still "you-know-who" is the only known owner of WHEELZ OF STEEL so I guess we are out of luck...

Still having trouble with my soundcard. As soon as I've sorted it out, KUSTER will be the first thing I rip.
Come to think of it, I do have a rip of their 1st single (featured on the legendary "Incredibly Strange Metal Vol. 1" CDR comp) but I'd prefer to upload everything I have at once for maximum impact

All this Kuster-hype has got me very curious! Is it really so good-bad?

Hauntingly godawful-entertaining on a spiritual level.

DaN wrote:Very bad stuff yes, mostly because of the girl "singing" - she's got this EXTREMELY annoying voice, like a nagging, senile, 90-year old hag. It's possible it could have been quite interesting w/ a different vocalist, but as Rob also hinted on the music and production is so primitive it's hard to tell if they really intended to play Metal or Hard Rock. It's not impossible they did though. The lyrics are pretty typical HR/HM lyrics and the music doesn't really fit into any other form of underground/alternative rock that was popular at the time either.
Anyway, since it's not as "funny"-bad as for instance KUSTER or THE PREACHERS there's absolutely no reason what so ever to go hunting for it. I got my own copy via eBay ages ago out of curiosity after having read about it in some old MonsterRec.-catalog.
Even worse crap to come. Stay out of tune...
Woo-hoo! Whata heavy shit this is. Actually I expected more from them. I was certain I will hear plenty more accidental dissonances

. Girl doesn't really sound like 90yo senile hag - honestly I wish she would. Unfortunately none of players lag a quarter beat. A lot of influences can be heard - Venom, Warfare, War And Pain era VoiVod and some less aggro NWOBHM. Postpunk has influenced vocals. But darn, it did Snake's vocals too. Yeah maybe that's the reason MA-(ab)user named Ultraboris vomitted allover them. Btw., Auric Slumbers is a minor classic. And fanfare on Wizard blows ... , well they blow well. Epic Medieval

Black Speed Metal / Punk. I'll try to hunt it down after I catch Spectral Incursion. As I said ...

DaN wrote:Absolutely 100% Metal/HR-intentions from THE PREACHERS I'm sure and I have the line-up pic on the album to prove it. Yeah, it's mostly the demented vocals that fuck them up (esp when you think about how these vocals sing praise to Jeezuz..) but one must take into consideration that most of us here are pretty jaded when it comes to primitive production and playing. Compared to your average 80's Metal they're still waaay off the chart.
I guess what sets this band from average 80's Metal bands is the singer who had destroyed his vocal cords while desperately trying to emulate Mr.Dirkschneider. On this he sounds like a dead-drunk Mark E. Smith. They're closer to "so bad it's really bad" that to "sgib" variant.

Nowadays that's a tautology.
