The Corroseum forum (new design under construction)

I agree that Randy is "polished". Not their sound, but their songwriting and musicianship for sure. There is a lot of thought and finesse in the way the songs are structured -- vertically, I mean, not just horizontally, if that makes sense.

I mainly agree with Nightsblood on the song breakdown. "Victim of the Night" is one of my favorites on the demo though, and I'd probably rate "It's Got to Be Love" a bit higher than he has -- only the chorus strikes me as ballad-ish.

Daniel, I think it will be easier for you to comprehend this situation if you know that Dodens Grav mostly listens to uber-kvlt black metal bands. Those bands usually release an album on 13 CDRs and then bury them in a graveyard or send to Antarctica so only the dead or penguins can listen to their music

Those bands do tell everyone they do not want their music heard. So it is not Dodens' fault really, he only does what his idols tells him to. Why all those bands have myspace pages is a mystery to me though, part of the doctrine maybe

Your post gave me an idea, which I think must be the most ultimate in the history of recorded music haha, that bands should just set copies of their records afloat in the waters and announce it in local newspapers, this way they could ensure only the most dedicated EVAH would even have a chance to track down a copy. Get those boats afloat, and radars mounted. Music is only for the privileged.

Iordan- my band is only gonna release 6 cdrs and bury all of them in a subterranean tunnel in the antarctic inhabited by giant blind penguins that serve as food for shoggoths- none more kvlt than cthulhu! (not picking on grav here; all this talk about cults of penguins and the deceased just triggered my Lovecraft Detector )

I always wanted to start a bedroom black metal project and release a demo tape in 6.66 copies before disbanding. The 2/3 of a tape would be the die hard.

Wow, really Iordan? Apparently you have no idea who I am. I listen to heavy/power/speed/doom/trad metal just as much as I do thrash/death/black metal. Maybe I listen to more black and death metal than the average person on this forum, but that doesn't mean that I listen to heavy/power/speed/doom/trad metal less. With that said, I'm not about to try to verify my credentials here to a bunch of strangers to whom I owe no explanation.

Daniel, your post is so full of ridiculous assumptions about my views that it's hardly worth addressing, but that tends to be your mode of operation anyway. I find it hard to imagine the statement "I generally avoid listening to music in ways not approved of by the band members" striking somebody as offensive in any way that requires a response. I quite clearly spoke only for myself. To present it as a morality tale is also to entirely miss the point as well. What I merely said was that, were I to sample a band audibly, I would do so through channels supplied through the band, and if they don't, I'll get opinions about it. And then I'll get over it and move on with my life, as if there wasn't more music out there that I could ever discover in my lifetime. If I can't find a way to get something from a band that is with the artist's consent, then I won't feel slighted and incomplete, I'll just find something else to listen to. I really couldn't give less of a shit if people illegally download. There are enough people who do that to give their opinions on the things that I can't hear otherwise for me to know whether or not I would like it. And if I can't buy something, I don't really care about it anyway. If there's some obscure demo band that seems really cool, I'll just wait to see if there's an official reissue of it later on down the line, and if not, I'll live. Meanwhile, I remain sitting here baffled that somebody could possibly object to another person operating this way.

What I meant is that I listen to the same bands that everybody else here listens to, plus all of the black and death metal you guys are afraid of. The only real difference is that I don't bother with ludicrously obscure bands unless they're reissued because I know there are 100 other bands to keep my interest for every Solar Eagle that remains in obscurity. Luckily there's enough of you people who DO bother that stuff like this gets reissued anyway.

Sigh, guess I have to do the math for you....

Let's say the average Corroseum member listens to 2 hours of metal a day. If Grav listens to 3 hours per day, he could spend 2 hours listening to the same stuff as the average Corroseum member, plus 1 hour listening to black/death stuff that does not appeal to the average Corroseum member.
Thus, it's pretty easy for him to listen to 'regular' Corroseum music just as much as everyone else and still listen to 'other' metal too. All he has to do is listen to metal for a longer period each day than the typical person here does.

Your statement is only true if Grav and the average Corroseum member all listen to metal 24 hours a day. And while metalheads love to make grandiose claims about how they Breathe Heavy, Eat Metal, and have Steel in their veins, I don't think anyone's got the tunes going around the clock.

In an attempt to make this discussion more interesting, a fun question might be, "How much metal do you listen to each day?". For me, about 3-4 hours a day (1 hr driving to work, maybe 1 hr at work depending on the day's schedule, 1 hr driving home, and maybe 1 hr in the evening, and most days that's gonna be all metal).
