Personally, I only like the Asatru era of Bathory.

Not quite. What he did claim was that he hadn`t listened to any metal band save for BS and Motorhead. He`s said to have been in some Oi!/punk bands in the early 80`s it was rather punk rock he would get off on back then.

But seriously isn't Slayer one of the most important extreme metal act ? They have explored the boundaries of Thrash Metal and even paved the way for both Death Metal and Black Metal.
