My new GF is not at all into metal and hadn't hardly heard METALLICA before we met.

I tried to have her listening some classic stuff such as BLACK SABBATH, etc. or some US metal and I gotta admit her reaction was more than ok since she agreed that the music was appealing ...

She's also fascinated by the smile on my face when I open packages full of Lp ... and she likes to hear my geek explanations about this 7" or this demo tape!

My ex GF was however rather jaleous ... saying stupid stuff like "this music makes you more happy than I" etc ... Now that we broke up she discovered that she enjoys stuff like early METALLICA, MEGADETH or JUDAS PRIEST ...

Haha good answers! The women should be happy though, that we just have this and aren't out shooting heroin or chasing prostitutes (well, I can just speak for myself here...).

I always had the worst? luck with girlfriends....Only my first girlfriend liked heavy metal, and got me into it she loved NWOBHM, while I was happy with just Van Halen records. Most of my girlfriends, only like stuff like indie rock, and top 40 pop music. To get a relationship off the ground a person only needs two points of common interest. I never bring up music, religion or politics.

I keep the small talk small. I live in a crappy area, where it seems like 90% of the people in my area worship stuff like Nirvana, Korn, lilith fair bands and one-hit wonder types of bands.

I bet your girlfriend loved W.A.S.P.

None of my girlfriend adore WASP but one of my girlfriends FATHERS worship WASP, RATT, MOTLEY CRUE, BLACK n BLUE, ICON, Quiet Riot, Halloween, AC/DC, Kick Axe, Steeler...etc. ....So I got to see the grass was not greener on the hard rock side of Arena metal. To much copy-cat happened in that genre of hard rock. I have nothing against any band or whatever. Just WASP in my view were just typical arena hard rock and not the killer metal that Megaforce Records, along with Combat Records were releasing. Combat and Megaforce do have some sub-par shit in there 83-85 catalogues, esp Megaforce/ Avalanche artist Eric Steel.

There must be some sort of electrical charge happening inside him that makes him rant uncontrollably when he hears the word WASP. Look what will happen now:

WASP are heavy fucking metal, no matter what Kick Ass Monthly says.

And Halloween always was the heavy metal horror show.

My wife is not into metal. She likes some of the more melodic rock stuff like Harem Scarem etc. but generally it is more mainstream pop bollocks. She is quite tolerant of what I listen to even if she looked appalled at me blasting out a Suffocation Lp the other week...

That sounds at least a little bit understandable.

I remember a girl specifically insulting a song of one of my favourite records once and it was quite off-putting(she didn't mention anything bad when I played some more obviously dislikable/heavier stuff).

It does feel really bad when a significant other insults a song you really like - I've had this experience too. But it's made me very aware that I have done this as well and dismissed other music as crap when that is quite an insensitive thing to do. "Taste bullying" is not nice.

I just find it very funny when somebody thinks that what I like is shit, considering I tend to think what they like is shit as well. I find it pretty healthy for a relationship to be able to say "again listening that piece of shit" without it turning into a fight.

My wife do not like metal, but she really dig "Katana" from the latest Enforcer-album. The rest of the album is, in her opinion, crap.
Ok, and a couple of songs by Skid Row, Helloween, Cinderella and for some strange reason...Persuader!
Actually, I have been in five long (or "long" - 1-5 years) relationships and none of them have been what I would call metalfans. Just liked a song here and there.
