Avenger (Ger) before they changed their name to Rage.
What about bands that were threatened with legal action if they didn't change their band name?
Slayer S.A. would be an example of this.
Also from browsing the metal archives on a regular basis, I'm starting to notice that a lot of new shitty bands are ripping off names from 80's bands that originally had them.
It makes me shake my head.

Crown of Thorns is another example of sueing and chaning the name,the Swedish death/thrashers.
By the way the most insane double-name case is the one with Atomic Opera,it seems crazy that 2 bands picked THAT shitty name at the same time in the States!

Brazilians must be the world champions of synonymity,apart from their heavy/power band called Warlord,they even have a thrash metal band called...Slayer!!! With a 2006 release,geesh!

We have a greek prog metal band here who changed their name from Ivory Tower to "The Ivory Tower" cause of the synonymous Germans but I don't think you care 'bout that.

The funny thing is that there were also a lot of bands with the same name back to the eighties apart from those ''shitty'' bands of today which do the same thing.

Threatening with legal actions seems kinda stupid to me since there are so many bands with the same name anyway.

20+ years ago it was understandable especially if the same name bands were from different parts of the globe, but with how easily obtainable information is today there really is no excuse for it.

Is that the same Magus Beast that still plays shows today? If so then I saw them last year. They were pretty good.

Yep, that is probably them - they've been around for a long time in the New York area and still seem to be active with gigs, although not sure if they are doing more albums...their CD "Say Your Prayers" is 11 years old by now...
