Seriously though, this does bring up a good point that I think a lot of collectors forget: there's always another copy out there somewhere. Records are not pressed up in quantities of one.
This is one of the first things my dad ever taught me about collecting. He got a new Blues price guide one day that had a write-up on the Gatemouth Moore blues LP (a copy is currently on ebay BTW). The guide said "Only 10 copies exist". Dad's response: "Well the author never asked my friend Bob about that record, and Bob's had a copy in his collection for 20 years... I guess there's really 11 copies"
It's definitely useful to know how many copies have turned up/are in collector's hands, but that has to be treated as a bare minimum number of copies in existence.
I think this is one reason I balk so much at auctions where people over-pay for an item. Why bid $100 on a record that normally sells for $50; why not just wait and try to get it for a more reasonable price? Even the biggest rarities do change hands from time to time. Perfect example: there were only 10-20 yellow Avatar EPs made, and it's widely known as one of the most expensive and desirable Top Items. Yet copies have been sold on AT LEAST five occasions in the past 12 years. Even one as rare as that has been turning up for sale at least every 2.5 years.
I understand that folks want certain items, and it can be frustrating spending months-years trying to find them, but if you miss out or lose one copy, another copy WILL eventually turn up. Personally I get zero enjoyment from owning an item if I know I paid twice as much for it as I should have (I realize some folks have enough money that they don't care about price, but that applies to a very small percentage of folks).
Note: I realize the price may go way up the longer you have to wait, but the price may also go way down; we've seen different metal records move in both directions in recent years. That yellow Avatar costs a few thousand more than it did 12 years ago. However, the Madd Hatter LP costs several hundred less than it used to.

Oh yeah, good point. We should make a thread about records, that used to be rare, but turned up in higher quantaties later. Sort of "former rarities" or so.
My guess is that if the whole collectors world sees a unknown record like PARAGON hit the market for the first time and sell for almost 800 bucks, then there's a good chance that at least one or two collector or record dealer would want to seize the opportunity and hope for the same cash in. Let's see if he can sell it.

Yep, happens frequently when an item brings a big price; more copies are suddenly offered for sale hoping to get the same big price. Right after Glockose sold his Liquid Earth last year another copy was listed wanting big $$$ (and it wasn't in good condition). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. No idea if it'll work with Paragon. Based on the one song I've heard from it, I ain't interested, especially at that price
This is another reason I dislike seeing people pay way too much for an item; other people are going to expect the same price no matter how outrageous it was. "Rattlehead14 got $10,000 for his copy of 'Doctor Feelgood' so i want $10,000 for my copy, never mind that it usually sells for $3". Those outrageous auctions throw the price structure out of whack long after the Bid War has ended. Real Example: I recently saw another Stormindow 7" and the owner wanted $600, despite the last 2 copies selling for $250 and $56; he just remembers the 1-2 copies that brought $600 so he wants the same amount.

Not surprising here either, though only 2 folks went above $150. I decided to pass; past two days I've had to return one rare record (poor condition) and had a buyer try to scam me on an item I sold, so I'm rather fed up w/ ebay at the moment. And while the a-side sounded interesting, the b-side clip really sucked IMO.
NWOBHM singles continue to sell cheap:
Oxym and Jaguar brought about $15 each yesterday
Lotus Cruise brought only $100
I think the new formula for calculating NWOBHM prices is based on my want list: if I already have it, cut the 2007 price 50%; if I don't have it, double the 2007 price
Oh wait, that's not funny at all

Didn't that SOLAR EAGLE EP go for a lot less than it used to? Below 500 dollars at least.

Yes, it's usually $700++. However, that seller got jerked around by several bidders. At least two people entered high bids, then retracted them. The record was as high as $710 at one point, then people started pulling their bids and it dropped back to $355. Ebay really needs to ban people that pull that crap. Oh I forgot, ebay never does anything to jackass bidders
It was also the third copy listed on ebay this year, so that may have cut interest some too. The other copies went for about $686 and $750.

The pink Mayhem has topped $1,000 three times this year, so currently that's not unreasonable for it.
The Legend seems to fluctuate between $500 and $1,000. That seller has several nice items listed at the moment (Ashbury, Emerald, Salems Wych, etc)
