That Lord Ryur went into a Corroseum member's collection ... :) Congratulations, James!

How about this one, 6 days, 23 hours to go and it's already over $300 :)

He says 10 copies but we really only know of four. 2 of those are owned by band members, 1 sold for $1200 in a psych list about 6 years ago and this one. This will be sold to a Hard Rock/Prog guy not a metal collector I would guess

Oh, so it did! Yep, congrats to James! He's picked up a few nice items in recent months.
It's a good single but not a Top Item for me. I'll save my money for something else :)

I would have got it cheaper if another *cough* corroseum *cough* member didn't bid even after I told him my max bid. :x

John- are the prices Jim got for Zaxas, Metropolis, and Messiah reasonable, insane, or in-between? I knowa few folks around here were thinking Zaxas might sell for $600-800, which was obviously off. I'm just curious whether these prices are 'typical' for these items or if they are selling significantly higher than one might expect.

Haha! Does this mean that I'll be rich eventually!

I liked this wording: "VERY RARE & ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND, ESPECIALLY WITH BOTH CD AND INSERTS IN MINT CONDITION"

I also found this since long expired link which tells me that the asking price sadly has gone down since the late nineties:

http://www1.gemm.com/item/VARIOUS/METAL ... GML987292/

Seriously, is this recording known by anyone here and if so, what do you think of it? Personally (egoistically) I only like QD (with whom I did the singing).

Good Question

All I can say from my experience is the following.

Zaxas - I only know of 2 copies, This is the first one ever for sale on the open market. It is a Great power metal record

Metropolis - I only know of 3 copies, The one just sold being in the best shape of the 3 + it had the fliers with it. I know of 3 copies of Avatar of Yellow that have sold for 2x this. so maybe even low.

Messiah - A little high/ It did have the only known photo and I have heard of the record selling for $1000 in the past but still to me a little high.

You have to think about this stuff is getting a LOT harder to find. I would say almost imposable. They are no longer turning up in Qty and there are lot more people hip to finding this stuff in the wild so not easy to get cheap

Thanks for the info John, i appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
I realize these are incredibly rare items, so there's never going to be much sale data to work with.
Do you have a feel for how many of the yellow Avatars are in collectors' hands? I used to know who owned about 5 of them, but some have been sold in recent years and I don't know if they are the same copies changing hands repeatedly, or if a few new copies came out of hiding.

I beleive they are the same copies just changing hands.

I was told by mr.killdrums a long time ago that they only made 10 copies
just for band members and some press(close friends). I know of 5 that are now in collectors hands

Interesting. Killdrums told me that 20 copies were made (personal communication, 1999). Even if I assume that every copy i've ever seen is indeed a different one (and that's probably a bad assumption), that would only account for 6, maybe 7 tops. Even if 20 were made instead of 10, I rather doubt that even 10 copies will ever be accounted for (gotta assume a few have been broken or otherwise destroyed over the years).

?????? I got this CD in a trade some time ago (thanks to Austria) but besides the Unholy part, which is ok Death Metal, nothing of interest is on this CD. And Unholy (not the Finnish!) was the only reason for putting this CD on my want-list.

I probably talked to him about the same time. I purchased everything he had left so he said.

Did you get anything from him?

No, I just talked with him. He was selling some stuff on ebay, including a copy of the Metropolis 7", but not a copy of the yellow Avatar.
I had seen a copy of Avatar on yellow vinyl about 6 months earlier and I was very curious about whether it was legit or a boot. I had talked to a few dealers and gotten conflicting answers. The editor of one of the euro metal zines said it was real and that a friend at another zine had one; John Allinson swore it was a boot. Steve replied that it was real, 1000 copies total w/ 20 being yellow, some speckled, and that he had owned a copy since Day One.

There was also a rumor of 16 red vinyl copies existing, but that one was discredited. It always sounded like an urban legend, as the story usually claimed that one collector in the Chicago area had them all but wouldn't show them to anyone.
