Yeah, that's a big problem. If you're rich it doesn't matter, but if you're really stretching your budget to try and win that #1 Want List Item, you don't want to see a copy sell for $550 less 4 months later.
"Bid what it's worth to you" is indeed a good guideline. BUT it's nice to know whether 'your price' has any real shot at getting you a copy, or are you gonna finish no better than 6th every time you bid that amount for a copy?
That's the other frustrating part; you're trying to figure out "is this record in my price range?" but the price is all over the place, so you can't tell.
For example, if someone is willing to pay $100 for a copy of Stormwindow, it's kinda hard to figure out if you have a realistic chance of getting it for that right now. $100 didn't even come close to winning the 1st three copies, but it was almost twice as much as the winning bid for the 4th copy. So when copy #5 turns up, will $100 have a reasonable chance of winning? I don't know....
Just to clarify: Stormwindow is not something I'm personally trying to get. I've never heard it and have no idea what it sounds like. I put in a single, $40 bid on just one of the copies just out of curiosity. Thus, my frustration isn't tied to this one record or to losing all 4 auctions

Re: Stormwindow: Title track is really good, b-side has a much more modern grunge feel. Decent, but nothing else.

Thanks for the info!
Couple today seemed to go high: both Urchin singles went for near $400. Have they gone way up since I was last paying attention, or did these go higher than usual?
Anyone have info about the Domain Sancutary LP that sold today? I've seen it a couple of times, keep meaning to ask about it

Holy cannoli... I thought the price would have gone down a bit since the LP reissue. Seems I was verily, verily wrong. Do you still have your copy, Patrik? Or did you trade it?

I traded it away. Got stuff worth apr. 2000-2500 euros for it though.

Weird though, the seller who sold the Tyrant also had an Apocalypse single for sale. That went lower than before, despite a similar recent re-release.

The pic sleeve of his Apocalypse was not in great condition, which probably kept the price down. It was a reasonable price IMO given the sleeve cndition
Glad I decided not to bother trying on the Tyrant; it's pretty good but I wouldn't consider paying even half that for a copy to keep.
NWOBHM singles are funny lately; the 'more common' stuff is selling for peanuts (Gaskin for $13, Dragster for $10) but the 'high end' stuff still demands top dollar (Tyrant > $1,000, both Urchins ~ $400 each, Charger $338)

I'm guessing not many new collectors are introduced to the genre at the moment, so there's no demand for the lower and mid range stuff. The older, die-hard collectors already have all of these, but lack the top rarities and so continue to pay top dollars for them.
Should the tide shift, and interest grow in nwobhm again, prices will probably rise.

Agreed on that. Also, the current economic crisis probably affects the mid-range items more than the high ones since the more costly items are purchased by people who are very safe economically anyway.

Yup, and it's not a phenomenon exclusive to records. I remember seeing the same thing happen to Atari games. Commons were always dirt cheap, but the uncommon ones (in the $50-100 range) halved in price. Meanwhile, the true rarities are still going up (such as the boxed Air Raid that recently sold in excess of $30,000).

As long as people pay these prices, there can't be no recession anywhere, this is insanity squared!

comic magazines are also insane!
I saw an Amazing Fantasy issue, number 15, the first ever appearance of "Spiderman", going in 2009 for the price of $22,000... And i thought, with this comic book you can get paradoxx, militia, villain, street child, leather nunn, and a 16000cc used car....
God i wish i find a box of this....
