I agree with you, I have the first 2 Demon records and I always loved them. To me the opposite of lame band, it's hard rock with Nwobhm feel done with real passion.

A-side of the first DEMON LP is NOTHING short of amazing. Don't like the B-side but for one track and only a few cuts on the 2nd, still, pointelss argument to me, they aren't 'wimpy' or crap. People's tastes are subjective but one could be more discerning and objective in the dismissal of certain music. Bottom line is no one hating on Demon is hardly ever going to write anything considered as classic as their best.

As much as I like NotD to me it just can't touch The Unexpected Guest, which to me is a perfect album. No reason to be aggressive about the fact that they never were a OTT Heavy Metal band. Some metal fans seem to like them and and thus want to recommend them (one could draw a parallell with Ashbury here I guess).
Spaced out Monkey was far from my cup of tea though. I haven't heard their last one - is it any better?
