Of course I would buy it for 1 euro on a flea market, I would still think it's a horrendous record though. What kind of questions is this, haha.Le fjump wrote:I bet things would sound difference on that matter if you found Deathcrush for one euro at a flea market.

Now I'm surprised ... I've seen you posted many old records, but none in a weird Black/Thrash style ... you should maybe go for Master's Hammer now.Dirty Rocker wrote:Love it.Prowler wrote:And now the 1 million question, do you like it?Dirty Rocker wrote:Original.

I've actually meant to buy the ritual LP but it never happened. Very strange and intriguing band. As for Flames of Hell, I wouldn't call it black metal but really dark/evil thrash/heavy metal with a big handful of insanity.Prowler wrote:Dirty Rocker wrote:Prowler wrote:[quote="Dirty

I'm everything but a Black Metal Churchburner, but the Deathcrush is a real sinister and evil masterpiece that I enjoy a lot. And not because its rare, cos I dont have the original (anymore).Dirty Rocker wrote: Of course I would buy it for 1 euro on a flea market, I would still think it's a horrendous record though. You should give it another try, one of the most atmospheric and thrilling from this genre for me.

It has some few really cool parts with great riffs and the intro is great but overall I just can't stand it. =(OmenOfSteel wrote:I'm everything but a Black Metal Churchburner, but the Deathcrush is a real sinister and evil masterpiece that I enjoy a lot. I'm sorry, but that isn't true. "Deathcrush" is nothing but a childish first effort of some kids who were eager to release their first record. Only the logo is cult on this release. Mayhem just started getting important with the arrival of Dead. "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" should have come out already in 1989 or 1990 with Dead on vocals and it would have been the most important Black Metal album in the history of modern Black Metal. "Deathcrush" is stuff from the Thrashqueen league (first album) ... and that says an old Mayhem fan ...OmenOfSteel wrote:I'm everything but a Black Metal Churchburner, but the Deathcrush is a real sinister and evil masterpiece that I enjoy a lot. Nah, Master's Hammer aren't strange, groundbreaking is a better term. Total Bathory worship with a hint of insanity ... absolutely groundbreaking for their time.Dirty Rocker wrote: I've actually meant to buy the ritual LP but it never happened. Well, I agree that "Deathcrush" is not a 'perfect' album, and in a way you could say it's a 'childish first effort'. But hey, the same can be said about Sodom's "In The Sign Of Evil", right? And I like that one too, ha!Prowler wrote:I'm sorry, but that isn't true. "Deathcrush" is nothing but a childish first effort of some kids who were eager to release their first record. "De Mysteriis..." with Dead would've been great indeed, but if the album we all know now according to you isn't the most important black metal album 'in the history of modern black metal', then which album is?

I think "In the sign of evil" is different kind of thing. You had structures in the songs and you had "songs", that's not available on "Deathcrush" which partly sounds even like a studio rehearsal.Lama wrote: Well, I agree that "Deathcrush" is not a 'perfect' album, and in a way you could say it's a 'childish first effort'. As for the most important modern BM album, that is wether "Under a funeral moon" or "Transylvanian hunger" both Darkthrone efforts. I don't know to prefer the inhuman rawness of "UAFM" or the icy melodies in "TH". I like both the same and can't say which one is the better one. But both are undoubtly the guidepost of many young BM bands at that time.
Musically "DMDS" of Mayhem is another candidate, but as already said, Dead's vocals are missing and Attila's try is well, just a try. He sounds strange, and many guys had/still have a problem with his vox. And the most important point, the album came 3 or 4 years too late. Most bands had adopted that style due to Darkthrone's albums that came out at the right time even though they had been highly influenced by Mayhem's style and created some even more cold riffs but the point was that Mayhem did not have an album available at the hour zero ... the creators of modern Black Metal sound had been overrunned by many followers of their style.

Re: "Collector Porn" - Vinyl, Tapes & Merch (2015)
I have no idea what's axactly "modern Black Metal" but i know i've always been more attracted to the greek or brasilian scene. For me the epitome of Black Metal lies more in Goetia or Thy Mighty Contract... Even though i totally recognised the influence that Darkthrone may have had and am a big fan of Mayhem DMDS. That last one, such as Burzum, didn't really have a true legacy... It's easy to copy Darkthrone (and sometimes to do it with excellence like for Katharsis or Seigneur Voland) but i can't think of any albums that really captured the musical essence of Mayhem DMDS, it's too sophisticated for most Black Metal musicians i think...

Too bad it doesn't sound like their demos tapes.

90's Black Metal, that eveloped out of the late 80's/very early 90's Death Metal sceneZombie Dance wrote:I have no idea what's axactly "modern Black Metal"
To me the greek and brasilian BM scene has more influences of olde Death Metal, it's mostly rather more Black/Death Metal. I like that too but when I hear the term Black Metal the first that comes to my mind is the norse style and ever will. Samael was a band that was ahead of it's time when they started in the late 80's with their unusual sound for that time. Completely against the mainstream ...

You mean too bad it sounds like crap? Really wonder what happened there, Piss into the mass grave was just a perfect demo. the cover is okay though, reminds me of the first Darkthrone or Beherit DDTM, you better hung that one on the wall.Prowler wrote:

I understand what you mean and i guess it makes sense since the general acception of black Metal relate to the norse sound. By modern i tend more to associate the few bands that really makes themselves different to the rest of the scene (like Peste Noire, CDG or Negative Plane for instance), I always saw the post-norwegian black metal a real step backward from the time where indeed, Abruptum, Ancient Rites, Samael, Necromantia, Bestial Warlust, Burzum and Abhorer could all be considered Black Metal. Personal appropriation of the concept is what makes Black Metal to me, but that's pretty idealistic i suppose.

Yo, that's a true statement. lolZombie Dance wrote: You mean too bad it sounds like crap?
I think they've learned to handle their instruments and wanted to show everybody what they can. Unfortunately the Prog crap doesn't fit much to a former Death/Thrash band.
Sure they are modern too but more 3rd, 4th wave BM bands ... the best "modern Black Metal" was created in the 90's ... nowadays they are highly trained/skilled musicians and the songs are worked out and polished to perfection. It kills alot of the old spirit for me. Sometimes it's better (especially for that genre) to have "a dirty touch" if you know what I mean. It's the same with the olde Death Metal. On these old early singles and demos they such a bad raw underground sound that you did sometimes shit your panties when they started playing/growling and then on later albums Scott Burns production (etc.), polished as fuck, glass clear bassdrums etc etc, alone when they started to use nonsaying avantgarde cover artwork while cursing the former gore and bonecrusher covers. Avantgarde covers are true Death Metal as everybody knows ...Zombie Dance wrote: I understand what you mean and i guess it makes sense since the general acception of black Metal relate to the norse sound. Black Metal is a wide term in sense of meaning and music. I don't wanna start of what makes Black Metal to Black Metal (lyrix of corpse) again. But when I hear "Black Metal", the first that comes to my mind is the norse Darkthrone sound...
