It would have probably helped if you were more clear to begin with though.

Change the thread title to "Doom Metal With Viking Lyrics" or something.

Just as the "true doom"-topic a couple of months ago, this thread is going absolutely nowhere. Every topic about any form of 'doom' is...well, doomed!

Start a topic about some hard rock album on the mighty Mausoleum recorords instead, then everybody on this forum will understand the context just perfectly.

Viking lyrics have absolutely nothing to do with it. One of the style defining album is Bathory's "Twilight of the Gods" and it pretty much doesn't have a single lyric line about vikings. The first post also mentions Solstice as a reference, who never wrote squat about vikings. He's not after "doom metal with viking lyrics", he's after doom metal similar in style to "viking era" Bathory.
Chroming Rose “Pressure” LP found! :D

I was being sarcastic as "Viking Metal" isn't an actual sub-genre and therefore not really defined in terms of what he's apparently looking for. I guess he could change the title to "Viking Era Bathory Clones" instead then.

Either way, it's not really Doom Metal.

GOD'S TOWER

It was mentioned earlier, but I think that's what you're missing in your collection.

Their CDs are hard to find. Would love to re-issue their early stuff.

It almost feels demeaning to namedrop them in this context but of course PRIMORDIAL should be mentioned. No other band I know have succeeded so well in taking the "Hammerheart"-influence and turned it into something unique. Frankly I can't imagine there being a better band of this sort out there.

I have actually heard of GOD'S TOWER, but I never got the will to check them out, apparently they are really great?

Was this really too confusing for everyone else to understand initially speaking?

Did I miss the obligatory mentioning of the mighty Atlantean Kodex? Lots of early Manowar/Solstice stylings. Usually German bands churn out cheese like dairies, but these guys ape the greats with great proficiency and spirit (and make for a damn good interview)

Actually this is probably totally true. Most bands in the "Bathory-copycat" genre might make for some interesting listening now and then and there are some gems here and there (Scald and Gods Tower are two that come to mind) but Primordial are totally in the league of their own. Amazing songwriting and monumetal sound. I also tend to like Mael Mordha with their take on the celtic/doom sound but they are much more bare-bones.

Although I really do like PRIMORDIAL a whole lot, I still think SCALD are the champions of this kind of Metal... The Will of the Gods is Great Power is just the most killer album I've heard in so damn long.

As for Gods Tower, haven't heard, but I've heard they are really great!!

Scald are great at what they do - the epic metal/viking doom thing. That is not debatable. I just think Primordial bring something unique to the table - their mysticism, bleak but still powerfull rifing and even sometimes a Neurosis-like sense of space.

None can overpass Bathory and Candlemass. Period!
