THE DECADE IS ALMOST OVER, WHAT ARE THE NOUGHTIES CLASSICS?
Nothing wrong with that! Rush have released a classic album every decade!Khnud wrote:Well, my list is rather diverse, it also contains a Rush album!
I still think 'Snakes And Arrows' was far better, but that is my opinion!
One that comes to mind is UNLEASHED-Midvinterblot! Classis noughties DM!
Why are a wise man & a wise guy opposites?

Hey ho, relax bro. No negativity about your picks here. You've made a bunch of "assumptions" here. I guess you didn't comprehend what I said. Let me be clear....when I come to this forum, I usually see the underground-est bands/labels being listed and it was just a surprise to see a list like yours pop up here at this forum where they mostly deal with obscurities. (for the 2nd/3rd time) There's nothing wrong with you or the list. I like a couple of the albums you listed.bigfootkit wrote:Why the "controversy", about my picks? As i've spent most of the noughties digging through the oldies i've probably missed a lot of good music from this decade, hence the thread. However, i fail to see why anyone would feel moved to negatively comment on albums which i connect with. They just happened to be the ones which i've come back to most often over the years since their release.mordred wrote:Well, the Grand Magus album is excellent anyway, 100 percent real metal.Shadow Kingdom wrote:
That's what I was thinking.
Not that there's anything wrong with those bands/albums.... just seems like it would be something posted on one of those big forums with a lot of people into big labels....
Didn't really understand the comment about "big labels" either. Yes, the Down album was released by Elektra, but since when are Scooch Pooch, Surfdog, Rise Above & (the sadly kaput) MFN big labels? Also, what does the size of the label have to do with the quality of the music? Sounds like inverse snobbery to me.
Anyway, enough o' that.
How do you all feel the noughties stand up retrospectively Metalwise? I reckon it's a no-brainer that the '80's is probably the favourite Metallic-era here, but how do we feel the state of the "scene" compares nowadays?
In fact, S&A is the only Rush album I don't own. Have to do something about that, methinks.Korgüll wrote:Nothing wrong with that! Rush have released a classic album every decade!Khnud wrote:Well, my list is rather diverse, it also contains a Rush album!

The classic albums are from the 70s and 80s for me, but there are still really good Rush albums from the 90s and 00s. They did a classic show in Oslo a couple of years back though - that was fantastic!Khnud wrote:In fact, S&A is the only Rush album I don't own. If you exclude a few early 90's latecomers that sort of belonged in the 80's anyway, I'd say the 00's > 90's. Scenewise it's a nobrainer. I'm not sure I can pick One #1 release of the decade, but SARCOFAGUS' "Core Values" is a strong candidate. Imo it's the most successful comeback from an old 'cult band' in terms of keeping their original vibe without rehashing the past. Some contenders:
PRIMORDIAL - Spirit The Earth Aflame ...and basically all the following releases
BROCAS HELM - Defenders Of The Crown
SLOUGH FEG - Down Among... & Traveller
HELVETETS PORT - Exodus To Hell
HIGH SPIRITS - demo LP
PORTRAIT - s/t
NIFELHEIM - Servants Of Darkness
CANDLEMASS - King Of The Grey Islands
PAGAN ALTAR - Mythical & Magical
DOOMSWORD - Resound The Horn
..and probably a few more
I'm sure TLOT's Omens.. LP belong there too, but I still haven't managed to pick up a copy
...and special credits to MASTODON for creating supposedly "modern" Metal that doesn't suck with their "Leviathan" album.

Hard to find a real classics. For me ENFORCER, PORTRAIT or HIGH SPIRITS are very enjoyable albums, but not quite classics.
I will go with:
THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG - Down among the deadmen (king of the decade!)
ATLANTEAN KODEX - The Pnakotic Demos
PHARAOH - The Longest Night
THE GATES OF SLUMBER - Conqueror
IN SOLITUDE - same
THUNDER RIDER - Tales of Darkness and Light Chapter II
SKULLVIEW - Consequences of Failure
TWISTED TOWER DIRE - The Isle of Hydra
ONWARD - Evermoving
ADRAMELCH - Broken History (speaking of great comebacks...)
DECEASED - Supernatural Addiction
OVERSTEP - Karrig An Ankou (you didn't see that one coming, right?)
WRATHBLADE - War of the Titans
