Maybe their best song, yet never officially released, don't ask me why.

One of the most hunting and intensive songs I can imagine, great lyrics too.

If you can't find the demo, just donwload it, you don't want to miss this masterpiece!
great song, not their best, but a great song. I miss some sort of dynamic in it, it's a bit too plodding, doesn't build up tension. still the vocal delivery is awesome. it feels a bit like they could have gone early Manowar on that one. I'm glad they only kept the Sabbath on the albums.

to add something: Primordial - The Coffin Ships = definition of haunting.

definitely agree with Saint Vitus, plenty of songs to choose from. people seem to have somewhat different conceptions of haunting though. for me it is a word I use quite a bit to describe some of the feelings I love best in my metal. a lot of dark, eerie and occult themed songs here, but in my mind a tragic, emotional, passionate etc. song can be just as haunting. not to speak of special recording atmospheres (f.ex. the Hell demos, Beherit or early Darkthrone, Winter and so forth).

one of my absolute favorites. Saint Vitus - 'Patra'. I also love Voodooshock's great cover of this one. another one that is sort of mixed with personal nostalgia is Nagelfar - 'Seelenland'. there is a lot that ties me to this band, but that song made me a fan for life all those years ago. different, but no less haunting 'Meuterei' on their 'Virus West' album.

I sometimes think MANILLA ROAD's "Return Of The Old Ones" has a very haunting, eerie feeling, especially at the end. It's like his fury (during the song) has gone, and only his resignation and feelings of defeat are left. Very otherworldly sound!

Not my thang, but playing it while stoned might very well be the one and only time I've wept while listening to Metal. (yeah, yeah.. flame on w/ your gay-jokes already...)

I cry while listening to music all the time. Nothing to be ashamed of.

As for haunting songs, try listening to the song "Lake Of Sorrow" by otherwise rather bland death/doom/goth band SINS OF THY BELOVED. The passage after 2:43 where the violin comes in is out of this world!

If Rich Walker read this, he would travel all the way to Sweden just to kick my ass.

Adramelch's Zephirus. Every time it gets to the chorus and the singer is just crying "ZEEEEEEEPHIRUUUUUUUUUS", with that dark Call of Ktulu-esque guitar harmony playing, I shudder. Never heard power metal so gloomy before.

HAUNTING –adjective

1. remaining in the consciousness; not quickly forgotten: haunting music; haunting memories.
–noun
2. the act of a person or thing that haunts; visitation.

So its is valid to make a post about a song that makes you cry, yet I prefer the mention of songs that make you feel dreadful, hopeless and terrified
