Northern wind take my song up high
To the Hall of glory in the sky
So its gates shall greet me open wide
When my time has come to die
Enough said.

Don't know how to explain it, but Quorthon's lyrics on his epic albums are some of the best i've ever read.
Sophisticated and ''clever'' metal lyrics are not always appreciated by me. If they come straight from the heart they can hit me to the bone, regardless how ''simple'' or naive they are. I don't care reading for the 1000th time some lines about swords and battles, massacres and nuclear disasters, if there's passion in them. And as far as i'm concerned Quorthon's lyrics have that passion.

What the hell? Laughing at Quorthon's lyrics might be the least expected thing on corroseum forum for me. So what's next.. leather, spikes & chains are korny?

I rather have lyrics written and sung with passion even if the performance ain't completely perfect or lyrics are lacking a bit of originality and substance than a pretentious artist quoting "clever things" from the books he read without any real connection. Quorthon sung straight from his
hammerheart.

The Bathory 'all-time' defining lyrical moment for me:
Sacred shrine of life and death
Apharamons gold key
The raping of holy interior
And all concealed
Now masturbated upon is
Throne of Gold
Scattered battered wings
Along the palaces and streets
Trophy of the victory
Attached to spear of the Beast
Now spitted at is the scalp of god
Even more perfect when heard in context of this masterpiece of a song..

Well said. I guess some people get those lyrics and some people don't.

Well, lots of Metal lyrics are ridiculous, but BATHORY did something with class, with atmosphere, just not testosterone and youthful energy. It has something more. That's why this band is worshipped by many, these days. (Because I've read old reviews that weren't truely positive...).

I fixed your formatting, so we can notice something special about these verses.

Also would like to add that Hammerheart and TOTG are two of my favorite albums ever. The lyrics and arrangements are fantastic.
I prefer the sophistication of Twilight of the Gods: the climax/resolution at the end of "Blood and Iron" is probably the most fantastic 15 seconds in my entire record collection. But I prefer the icy atmosphere and heft of Hammerheart: still some fragments of the earlier records to be sure. The scream of "fire!" after the first chorus, as already mentioned, is quite a moment. In fact it's my favorite vocal ad lib, followed by the scream from In the Woods' "Yearning the Seeds of a New Dimension", surely a band that should be avoided by those who find these albums boring.

Your version? Wow... It's great!
I think Nachtfalke also did this one?
