Although I'm surprised too, that they won't be doing any vinyl reviews anymore. I've heard that Charly Kogler sold his LPs or so; but what happened with that Charly Ro...? Did he sell the LPs too and is now just in CD scene?

Yes, Charly Kogler was forced to sell his vinyl collection because he had an "expensive divorce".

Charly Reckendorfer also sold all his vinyls about a year ago. He started collecting vinyl in ancient times and he reached a point where he felt "he had all" and it was too difficult to find any additions to his collection, so he got bored of it all and sold everything in an instant! (personal opinion: I knew his collection, it was impressive, but far from being "complete". Guess he just needed something new after all that time... I already told you he's crazy)

Now they both will dig DEEP into obscure/private CDs and I am sure the site will have lots of valuable infos in due time. Maybe they will even help to make CD-collecting trendy so all those silicon-maniacs out there will be saved from those "ONLY VINYL IS REAL" screams that guys like me need to let loose from time to time

hahahaha, nice guy that charly dood. i've sold him some "rare" cds....he still thanks me for them....and some of them are included in the site....after all money never was a problem for a swiss guy......and let lips wondering where all of them go....

VERY interesting question; what happens with the collector's mindset, what will happen Are we all going insane in the end? It seems like an addiction that NEEDS to end. For me, I keep it under control and when I need money I first sell my kidneys before I sell any vinyls...

To imagine I am forced to sell my vinyl-collection is a horrible thought. Hope I will never be in the situation where I really have to think about that...

But I have set limits to my collecting-madness: I have a selfmade cupboard for Demotapes (room for ~400), one for CDs (~900] and a large one for vinylrecords (~2500). CDs and LPs are full. When I get something new, something old must go.
Quantity of my collection stays the same, quality will improve.

I wonder how long I will keep this good plan up, haha.

Spending millions for collecting thousands of vinyls for decades and then deciding that you don't want them anymore...sorry...i can't understand it. At least why sell ALL of them? I can accept the possibility of having big financial problems but this can't be the case for all of them. Great mystery indeed...

Anyhow, as investment, it's practically impossible to make a profit. If you would put the money, you are spending on albums, in a bankaccount and keep interests on that account, you would notice, that the value of your account is bigger then the value of your collection.

There are exceptions, though. If you were a collector in the '80's for instance, but then access to rare albums was smaller.

Collecting albums has to be a passion, because you will not get rich collecting them.

Yes and I knew you were going to mention Walter Geertsen.

He's a big exception. And for what we know he just survives with his records. We don't know how many pieces he sells, and how much he pays to get his copies. If I look what car he is driving (you know how I know, tomas) he doesn't seem to be loaded. A crappy Ford Fiesta, isn't a sign of wealth, if you catch my drift.

Anyway Walter Geertsen is an exception. And exceptions will always excist, as I mentioned before.

It's not because you start runnin, that you will break the world record. Lots of people try, almost al of them fail. But because they are passionate, they continue running.

I don't think he payed lots of money for his stuff, he just started collecting at the right time = when noone was interested.
Maybe he doesn't have lots of money on his bank account, but he has a huge huge huge huge fortune worth of LPs.

Interesting story of a man who got rich by collecting records: Joe Bussard. Some of his records are worth 35000$.
