Actually we need an even mixture of Psychotic Waltz and Suffocation for example. With a pinch of Ligeti. Or wholly Ligeti undertoned. So which bands would sacrifice itself for that aim?

Drone Thrash is easy to do. Just play a kickass thrash riff in lockstep unison with a rhythm section for 20 minutes in a row. No overt changes, just subtle riff variations (one note at a time perhaps, think Steve Reich, only thrash), perhaps subtly removed phase patterns, god, don't make me record this.

I wonder how Yes came up in a "savagely brutal prog metal" conversation!

By the way,weren't Coroner brutal and prog in many ways?

technothrash is sometimes quite savage, but I would not call it intentionally brutal at most cases, no.

I still wonder how someone can be brutal and prog,I think brutality has to have an "in-your-face" quality and prog with all the time changes and shit isn't quite "in-your-face". Anyway!

That's the challenge. Have the same "wondering". It should not sound like Goeteborg nu metal, however. The potential of this threat should not be underestimated. Why? Those bands are quite technical in general and can mislead ppl to think they are "the end of the road".

The first riff on Drama is actually pretty brutal. That a really cool record if you've never heard it. I think it's leagues beyond Fragile (who really needs to hear that record ever again??) and it's the one YES record with a few actually "metal" sounding riffs.

This sounds like a brilliant idea! I would definitely be interested in hearing someone do this. Listen also to the soundtrack of "Lucifer Rising" by Kenneth Anger for in-spir-ation.

I will do this eventually, but it won't be in any release that'll ever catch the ears of the public, sadly. So, if someone writes their drone thrash in the forest all alone and a tree falls on them and kills them, was drone thrash ever concieved?

I still think it would be a good idea - well worth working on.

Well, I'm not too sure that it's THAT progressive, but I'd reccomend Graf Spee's demo called "Mother Fucker". It's very different than the album, and I would call it progressive, but I don't know that much about progressive stuff anyway.

does THEORY IN PRACTICE count? they're definetly techy and proggressive, but pretty brutal musically and vocally...they even do a SPARKS cover!

Oh Piotr! Actually I completely forgot to show you but I went ahead and did it at the time we were discussing. Here it is. It's a phase pattern, naturally. Half the drumkit and the guitar left gradually become desynched with the right. Mid-way the whole thing is completely unhinged and then it slowly crawls back together. The riff I chose I think might have not been the best idea ever because it's too complicated. A simpler Destruction-type riff would have worked better. I might try this again later on. If you can listen to this whole thing - especially on headphones - be prepared to think of this riff for the rest of the day.

Gotta say don't like it at all. Pointless.
