There is no way a Slipknot fan (or any close-minded, so called metal fan) would/could like any of these bands. They just wouldn't understand, majority of them would just laugh and comment about the vocals if you played it to them...I work with a bunch of the fuckers who all cringe at my music and do exactly this.

No, its more a place to meet already like-minded ppl., not draw the attention of the ones who dont care for "our" kind of metal and convince them.
"our" kind of metal? There's good obscure 80's metal, and there's quite bad obscure 80's metal, really. I like like 30% of the stuff I've heard from the Corroseum reviews. I got here to learn about more bands, not to talk about what I already know (well that too, but not too much).

I'd like to hear Dan's opinion on why he thought putting a site like The Corroseum up in the first place was a good idea. I understand that it was enjoyable to write on its own but obviously he wanted an audience, or he wouldn't have uploaded it. I want to know if the website is for people who already know all these bands he reviews, or for people who might have heard and appreciated one or two of them and are looking for similar things.

Krogull: my best mate had never heard of Fates when we started hanging out, and one of his favourite metal bands was the excretable (in my opinion) In Flames. Right now, Fates is his favourite band and they've helped him with his life in ways. Had I thought his tastes too lowly to ever understand Fates, he might have still been listening to In Flames. You never know until you try. I agree 99% of the time good metal goes right over the heads of people (there's a reason it's obscure) but trying is still good. Some people in this thread think I'm talking about proselytizing, but no such thing. If you're talking about favourite bands in metal with people, it usually follows that they wanna know more about the ones you mention that they don't know (at least in my experience) and it's fairly easy to write them some life-changing shit. They might listen to it, they might not. It might drop seeds that will flourish later, it might grab them by the throat right now, who knows. Why all this defeatism and volountarily seclusion?

Think of it this way: every time you don't introduce some naive badmetalhead into good metal, you're potentially ruining the chances that there will be new good metal in the future. If people don't have the 'right' influences, they might never outgrow the 'generic metal' type of stuff they play, as that's been the only thing they've been exposed to. The Corroseum (website) for example, I can bet is a valuable service for people that will in 10 years from now be making AWESOME FUCKIN' METAL.

I feel like reacting.
First of all, someone said 'metal is a way of life'. I always laugh when I hear this statement. What the f*ck does this mean?
Do you slay dragons in your spare time? Do you have a big anvil on which you straighten and repair your axe after each battle? Do you pray to Holy Satan to give you strength? Were you born listening to Retrosatan or Bathory? 8)
What does 'metal is a way of life' mean?? I have a fairly normal life, I have a daytime job, I go out during weekends, ... and I really love metal. So I don't have a clue what it means. Metal does not run in my blood, I don't feel the power of steel flowing through my veins...
So can someone please explain what the 'metal way of life' is?

Educating young metalheads:
I think genuine/'true' metal music is an acquired taste. I think it's not something you like the first time you hear it. That's why it's important to educate younger metalheads without forcing them to change their taste or way of life. I was lucky when I grew up. There was a metalshow on our local radio, that was made by teenagers and for teenagers. I got to know lots of good old stuff.
And in the end, musical taste is subjective, it is not based on fact. A 13-year-old kid feels a rush of adrenalin when listening to Dimmu Borgir. We feel that rush when putting on Satan's Host or Manilla Road.

I have a website about rare metal too (www.forgottensteel.de - not updated in a shameful long time  ), and I never even spent one thought on attracting "none-80ies/obscure" metal lovers with it.
To hell with 'em !!!! HAHAHA

hahaha...ok, I was waiting for this question...you got completely wrong my words! When someone has Metal as a Way of Life, it means that he breaths and lives for Metal, no matter if he holds a Battle Axe, or a Sword. Daily we are called to give many Battles..small and big ones, and we choose whenever we'll be the Winners, or not...despite our probs and pressure Metal is ALWAYS there to give us the Strength to continue. Believing in this Value, and never go astray, grands us with the Power to slay our "Dragons", and eliminate our fears...and have our conscience sane, so it has to do with our survival at least! THAT happens everyday for years...so we celebrate this, by enjoying EACH moment that a good Metal song gives us! Listening to Metal is a Testimony, and not a simple thing, but after all, everyone has his own aspect, and I just told you mine, so, if you don't agree don't try to understand me, just accept it and have your own beliefs...

Metal way of life is code for not showering, wearing faded Sodom shirts and drinking so much alcohol you'd rival George Best (if he was still around). Pre-requisites include having no job, being extremely fat and ugly and fitting the stereotype metal cliche mould perfectly.

Another deadly metal-cliche is just about everything a die-hard MANOWAR fan would say. I always get the SAME fuckin' answers if i ask them about Into Glory ride, Hail to England, Fast taker, the lyrics, their shows and how lame were their last albums. Those fans + those of ANTHRAX = avoid at all cost

No, no, a die hard MANOWAR fan is something more than "the first 4 albums".

Me: "The last couple of albums of Manowar were shite, man"
M-fan: "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU BASTARD?"

Stuff like that if you know what i mean.

No, I don't agree with that...being prejudiced bout someone's point of view is the WORST thing of all...On the other hand, being so negative by saying the word"shite" is crappy too...After all, everything is a matter of tase, BUT you have to respect someone's desire to express sth different, eventhough you don't follow his thoughts...

That wasn't really my point up there.

I don't think that many of the above mentioned fans do listen to what you have to say. Trying to make a discussion with them is like trying to find the exit on a dead end street, that is at least what i've experienced before. I always accept that ''matter of taste'' thing, but deifying anything related to Manowar is something that just makes me wanna laugh.

To avoid the upcoming misunderstanding i must say again that not all of Manowar's fans are like this, i was talking about a specific type of Manowar fan.

Now, we're off topic again, but I wanna say sth that chokes me...speaking personally, EVERYTIME I say that I like Gods Of War I receive the same answer: You're a deeply stuck into Manowar fan, and you can't see their decadence(ok, I've received a FEW different answers to be honest, but they just justify the above rule..)....GIVE ME A FAKING BREAK! :?

OK, if you did like Gods of War, it's fine with me. But if you also happen to like Warriors of the world AND Sons of odin AND Louder than hell AND all those meaningless DVDs they put out the last years, then i can safely say that you are indeed stuck deeply into Manowar. And even if 99.9% of the metal population would have given you the same answer, i truly wouldn't give a damn.

OK, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT...I know many persons who, for example like Louder Than Hell...For me, this is the worst Manowar album, without saying that is crappy ofcurse!! What the fuck, does this make me a stuck into Manowar fan? Don't I have my OWN judgement to find out what I really like, and what I don't? Some others consider Fighting The World a poser album...I DON'T, and ofcurse that has to do with someone's aspect or taste, and NOT with the loyalty to Manowar! On the other hand, nobody can deny that there are many blinded Manowar fans out there...

It never had to do with loyalty of the fans to their band. I don't undestand what's that supposed to mean anyway. Besides, i think that not even Manowar themselves are loyal to their beliefs. The beliefs of "Hail to England", "Sign of the hammer","Into glory ride" or "Achilles...". As artists they don't have anything to say at all anymore and all that ''let's make music for the fans'' mentality is one of the most dishonest and non-metal things ever. A true artist satisfies first his inner need for expression and then the needs of others.

The blinded Manowar fans you mentioned, tells me that you probably have met some of the people i was talking about...
