Funny huh?
heavymetalmaniac, could you confirm that by looking at the matrix? Looking at the photos I have an impression that it's just an unfortunate light reflection that causes us not to see the "-7568 01" part of the matrix on the photo.

I've checked it now and can confirm:

The matrix reads as follows:

CDP-BERLIN 85-7568 01 and yes, it's an unfortunate light reflection. I tried to make another picture but I can't manage to get a better one than already posted, with or without using a flash... .

No need to be offended in any way, I know that my copy is an original, since I bought it back when it came out. It was widely available and I got it at a store named ELPI or maybe it was already Saturn. Would have been strange if there were boots right after the release... :?.

I just wanted to say that there are boots around and maybe they also copy the matrix, I don't know. Musiksammler doesn't say anything about these boots afaik.

However, I just tried to help thats all and that's my last posting regarding this case. Hope it helps - and sorry if there's anyone who feels offended by my posts.

Thank you.

I totally agree with you. Just checked my pressing and it looks identical. It's also made by Disctronics but I bought it much later than 1988, must have been in the 90's or even later. I wonder, did Metal Blade CD's already have barcodes back in 1988?

According to Musiksammler the first pressing had a different number.

Barcode beginning in 3984 = 90s pressing or later

The first press is of course the silver-red disc made by Enigma.

Is the MCA press much later than the Megamania press (which has an ugly cover by the way ;) )?

Mechanic is the first press if you want to get technical, it was made in '88 and Megamania was released in '89 (same time as No Anaesthesia!). Just sayin'

and now who to believe? I have the MCA version (it was listed for 9$ with worldwide shipping for quite a few days and noone wanted it) so I'd rather believe its the first press.

You got it for that price because that CD is a pain in the ass to search for, probably no one saw the auction. MCA being a major label, of course the CD was released concurrently with the LP, whereas the Megamania CD was not released until '89. Mechanic is not as rare as Megamania, and there may have been more than one press run, but it was definitely released first.

Though I am not trying to justify a $99 price tag, that is clearly ridiculous. Generally $20-40 I guess, sometimes more depending on seller.

Then Megamania originally did only vinyl/mc ? Because on MCA cd (if I remember well) there is written "licensed from..."

I keep the Megamania print anyway :P first press or not - I have all 6 Stone cds on Megamania ^^ I wonder how many in the world are we ? =)

Yes Megamania pressed vinyl (and probably tape) in '88. That same year it was licensed by Mechanic and issued on CD/LP, and the following year Megamania pressed it on CD when No Anaesthesia was released.

I'm still missing quite a bit of Stone stuff, but they are the one band I collect as rabidly as Sovdat and Roco with their little fetishes. I already have 5 different copies of the s/t :P

So Free was released on Megamania? I always thought it was only Black Mark that released it (until 2003 of course). There's also a Black Mark 2LP is there not?
