Is it just me or do Polish guys always overprice the shit out of everything?

iirc, that lot was quite a bit cheaper when it was listed on allegro.pl. My memory could be failing, but the first time it was brought up in this thread it looked like a half-decent deal if you could splash out the initial dough. Could have made a bundle re-selling.

Basicly yes. I saw a Wrath CD go for 150$ recently. Madness. I quit early on that auction.

Agree! Polish metalheads are insane maniacs! Even on local auctions like allegro prices for even not a big rarity always insane. Especially what regard to old thrash/death metal

What is funny is that this is small cadre of people that do this. If something is a remotely rare thrash release and is on allegro.pl they pay obscene amounts for it. I was happy to get my Ravenous "Book Of Covetous Souls" CD recently for fairly cheap - I thought I was going to get outbid in a obscene fashion. I remember Purgatory "Tied To The Trax" (BTW on the wantlist!) going for about 100$!

You are correct. I specifically remember the Excruciate CD being on that list before, but no longer. Probably many others as well, wasn't it 500+ CDs originally?

Yes, 500+ ... I saved the page but I'm not at home so I can't double-check, but I'm pretty sure they were 500 ;)

I think it's safe to say that the auction is more an 'advertisment' (probably he knows very well nobody is willing to buy all that stuff at once). Next time there could be 300 cds on selling :D

Sorry if a little off topic here, but regarding Poland metal buyers, I ran a shop in the UK and we had a couple of Polish guys who would come over to the UK every couple of months and absolutely raid the town of second hand records to sell over there. Would buy LP's from me at full price happily, common stuff like Thin Lizzy, Rainbow etc and wouldn't even look at the pricing for the Death metal like Carcass, Obituary etc they would just buy immediately (£20-£30+ no problem)

I thought then it must be common for Polish metal-heads to pay over the odds?

[edit - sorry, I'm referring to LP's here, not CD's, wrong section!]

Here's the funny part. They pay top dollar and then try to resell for the same price and fail.

By the way, that's pretty close to the going rate for the Steamhammer Purgatory CD anywhere online.

Yet the average Polish paycheck should be enough for 1 or 2 CDs per month. Do all these Polish collectors belong to the higher class or what?

It seems that all of the serious collectors do indeed have LOTS of disposable income. I have known a couple of them and they earn lots lots of more money then what is on those webpages.

As for Purgatory - good to know this. Will try to get it via other means.

"Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks)."

That is complete bullshit. Average salary is much lower than in some more developed countries, but it is 1000$ + and it depends on the curent currency rates - at one point in 2008 it was more like 1500$. And it does not tell the whole story, because it is only the average - the distribution is is very wide, so there is no problem finding 20-30 people capable if paying top dollar for CDs...

It is hard to explain why the prices are higher than on ebay.de for example... maybe its because noone could buy these CDs when they came out because there was no distribution AND I see a funny thing which can also contribute to this phenomenon - most people are afraid of buying CDs from abroad

This is absolute reality for Ukraine.

And it's great! More rarities for us!
